Get Hip To Cleveland's Rising Star: 55Bagz

55Bagz, a 21-year-old out of Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the most exciting artists making music right now. With ingenious melodic instincts and a sharp ability to express his cold reality, he creates a captivating world in every song. At the beginning of 2016, his Soundcloud held few tracks—a single and some features—not quite enough to know him, but all excellent. Then in October 2016 he released “Purge,” an outstanding solo-track that steadily grew into becoming his breakout record. His musical abilities had come to full form in this song, blending mesmerizing melodies and some seriously moving lyrics to create a bittersweet street anthem. Since then, he has been on a rapid rise. He got signed to Yo Gotti’s record label CMG at the beginning of 2017, dropped an excellent debut mixtape “Bond Money” in May, and has grown a loyal following. It seems inevitable that he will be a household name soon enough, but for now, he remains widely unknown. I caught up with 55Bagz for a quick Q&A. ITS: Where are you from?

55Bagz: Francis ave, a project area hood in Cleveland, Ohio

ITS: What type of music did you grow up listening to?

55Bagz: Gangster rap and I used to like Musiq Soulchild lol

ITS: Purge is one of my favorite songs of 2016. The melody is so dope, and the lyrics are really real. What was the inspiration for that song?

55Bagz: My car got shot 15 times. That’s about it.

ITS: From your music it sounds like the Cleveland streets are hectic. People don’t usually see or know much about Cleveland. What was it like growing up there, and what’s something you’d want people to know that they might not know about it?

55Bagz: It was fucked up living in Cleveland. Don’t get used to having no friends. They gone turn on you or they gone die my nigga.

ITS: How’s the rap scene out there?

55Bagz: Its ight. In my head it’s just me doe.

ITS: What are BME and DDxCO?

55Bagz: Bond Money Empire is my label. Designer Drugs & Co. is the Mobb (GangShit)

ITS: How did you end up connecting with and getting signed to CMG?

55Bagz: Breezy hmu and ever since we first got in contact he been turning me more into a real “star”

ITS: Bond Money was an amazing debut project. What’s next for 55Bagz?

55Bagz: “Out On Bond” the album. And plenty of tours

ITS: What’s the dream for 55Bagz?

55Bagz: I wanna be known as a great. Whether its music or whatever I’m doing in the future, I wanna be known as the best.
