Ram Dass On Bringing Compassion Into The Political Arena
From the original 1986 PBS television series "How Then Shall We Live?" featuring Ram Dass and the late Stephen Levine:
“The question is, how can we use the conditions of the world in a way that we can become part of a loop that is healing into the situation?
A loop that passes through the human heart.
I think that intuitive heart wisdom is very lacking in the way we approach foreign policy, in the way we approach ecological problems, in the way we approach economics -- that people can starve when we have an abundance.
The responsibility is for each of us to acknowledge and honour that intuitive heart place.
I think that we will start to value compassion as a politically valuable asset.
Not phoniness, but a genuine quality of compassion.
And I think that there needs to be more bringing that into figure in the political arena than it is.”
