If you were to ask someone to play a video game with you, would that count as you owing them a favor?
It’s malleable, depending on who it’s supposed to benefit. Are you asking for their company for your own sake, or offering your company for their sake? There’s not usually a cut-and-dry answer to that even in the most mundane of settings, and dissecting the reasoning behind it is more likely to ruin the event than not.
I think it would, more often than not, simply fall under ‘invitation’, rather than a matter of debt. Perhaps it might be different if you explicitly require their presence and are willing to bargain for it (fake dating???) but for something like ‘wanna play mario kart/come to the dining hall/walk to the library with me’ there’s generally no sense of obligation.
