The two Kats: Katrina Cornwell / Kathryn Janeway?
They would initially be at odds, I think. They are very similar and also very different. They are both dedicated to Starfleet and Federation ideals. They both come to command from a foundation in science. They are both decisive, both brave. They both care deeply, and sometimes it scares them. But Kathryn is more playful, Katrina more thoughtful. Kathryn is bold, Katrina is deliberate. Katrina asks why, Kathryn asks why not.
I also ship both women with everyone and believe that everyone falls for them. But not in the same way. Kathryn is aware of her magnetism and she plays along. She is used to everyone falling for her charms and becoming hopelessly devoted to her at first sight. She expects and pushes people to be their best selves for her. Kathryn flirts wildly with actually everyone, but has clear, specific rules about relationships.
Katrinaās charisma is quieter and she is not as aware of the effect she has on people. She is focused externally; where Janeway pulls people into her orbit, Katrina is reflective, expecting and pushing people to be their best selves for themselves. Sheās not a flirt, but her boundaries are much more fluid.
Any meeting would require time shenanigans so they have a built in problem to problem solve, and problem solving could lead to late night conversation and a blurring of roles. Katrina could present a challenge to Kathryn because she wouldnāt immediately fall for her. Kathryn could present a challenge to Katrina because she would hide her real feelings behind her superficial puckishness. Once it got late enough, and they got loopy enough, they would bond over all the things they do have in common, and the loneliness inherent to being a woman in charge. Kathrynās loneliness is more acute, which counselor Katrina would pick up on. I think, given enough time to really get to know each other, they would both be better for the interaction. Kathryn would help Katrina let go in terms of how she presents herself, and Katrina would help Kathryn let go in terms of how she interacts with people personally.Ā
They could definitely have fun in a Girls Night Out-Grown Up Slumber Party kind of way, and they could be great friends, but I donāt see them as compatible for a long term romance.Ā
Send me a ship and Iāll give you my (brutally) honest opinion on it and/or write a scenario/give you a series rundown of my headcanonsĀ
