Fixing IO Device Errors
The I/O device error appears when the computer is not able to read data correctly. It can happen when you are copying files from a CD or DVD. The error can also appear if you are installing software. Solutions If you are using a CD, check if the disc is scratched or damaged. Take the CD out of the drive. Clean if it is dirty. Use a clean cloth to wipe the disc. Try it again. If it is still not working, examine the CD/DVD drive. If you try other CDs and the same problem appears, the drive has to be cleaned. There are disc drive cleaners available. The error could also be due to incorrect transfer methods. Fix the Cables The error message will also pop up if there are loose cables on your computer. Turn the computer off. Check all the cables connected to it. Pay close attention to the CD and hard disk wiring. This is where the problem is likely to appear. If everything looks all right, disconnect the cables and reconnect them. In many cases this will fix the problem. Updating CD Drivers Always update your CD drivers. If the driver is old, the operating system may no longer be able to read it. The updated drivers are available at the CD manufacturer’s web site. Other Solutions for the I/O Device Error Other possible culprits are a malfunctioning printer, scanner or other device. Actually, any peripheral device can produce this error. While different components may be at fault, the cause is the same. The computer was unable to configure the program meant to recognize the device. In short, the problem is due to a miscommunication between the device drivers and the external device. To fix the problem, click Start and choose Control Panel. Check the Performance and Maintenance option. Go to System then Hardware. Choose Device Manager. Find the one with the red "x" mark or yellow "!". Click the General tab and choose 'Enable Device'. If the error is still there, select General, Troubleshoot. Click OK. Registry Cleaners Sometimes the problem is due to the Windows Registry. The Registry processes a lot of information and it may cause various errors to appear. If this is the problem, you have to get a Registry cleaner. Before you use the Registry cleaner, try the other solutions first. Editing the Registry is always a big risk. Most of the time, the other solutions will work.
