Despite these efforts by the soldiers, it remained somewhat difficult to identify soldiers due to the destruction caused by explosives.
As time progressed, soldiers began to scribble their names and other information on paper, place it on a small, shaped wood, and insert a thread through it. This helped, but it wasn’t a permanent solution.
