Too much of what a DJ or producer has to “do”, has gotten lost inside of the numerous ways there are to do them. It would be nice if we could just rewind and skip back to a day when things were simpler, but this would also mean we would not get the benefits of the confusing and complex ways tasks are performed these days. Imagine how speakers were wired before balanced and unbalanced systems were created to ease the process – we probably used lamp wire to send signals from a receiver to a speaker box. Now we have too many ways to do this; we can use XLR cables, thick guitar cables, and even RCA cables to wire up your sound. Methods to record audio are also in the same boat. We can look for traditional methods of wiring up a microphone, maybe a regular headphone jacked mic will do – but there are always newer and better ways to achieve the same thing. Those with an iPad have fewer options out there, but the ones that exist are pretty good. You can buy a microphone that plugs directly into the 30-pin connector, meaning that no additional wires are needed. http://www.musicradar.com/gear/tech/recording/microphones/mikey-digital-572068
