Apple iPad Mini 6 review: Not extravagant but practical for its size, price
The iPad Mini has been through five cycles of generational refreshes, yet its design has not been as radically improved as it has in the recently launched sixth-generation upgrade. Called the iPad Mini 6 or iPad Mini 2021 by technology enthusiasts, the new iPad Mini looks modern and in line with Apple’s most other big-screen tablets.
The design refresh boasts trimmed display bezel areas, which allowed Apple to accommodate a tad bigger screen than the last-generation model, without compromising on the compact ergonomics the iPad Mini is known for. Inside the iPad Mini - Samsung A5 processor found!
With Apple launching its first low-cost iPad, all eyes are now on Apple-Samsung rivalry since it is carrying Samsung’s own A5 chip. Apple is all ready for the holiday season with two spectacular new devices, as is always expected from the company. The new iPad (fourth) which is named iPad mini puts Apple’s device in direct competition with the low end Android tablets: Kindle, Nexus, and other Android tablets.

Because of this past behavior, many speculate Apple A5 processor to be launched secretively. There are A5 package markings which can be found in the iPad Mini which are similar to the markings seen in the fifth generation iPod.
The new foundry which Apple will have to order A5 chip for Apple devices from is thoroughly confirmed to be Samsung. Once the images of the chip are kept in a cross section, one can easily find the same gate pitch and k metal gates with a host of similarities.
Apple believes in re-use so while the board is a little different and filled with blank areas, one has the RF and baseband chips. The display
Display of the iPad Mini is one aspect that disappoints users most. It has no retina display, rather it is the same that was used with the iPad 2. It doesn’t match the full high-definition display of the latest regular iPhone and iPad. Its 1024×768 resolution is the same that was used with the iPad 2 which is in fact low definition from today’s standard. It is off-course a shortcoming as tablets like Nexus being offered at just $199 are having 1280×800 pixel display. However, the pixel density has been increased to 163 ppi from 132 ppi, which was used on the iPad 2.
Design and display
Apple had previously clarified during its product event that the new iPad Mini is not just a shrunken-down iPad, rather it is something different in design and performance. It seems true as the device looks entirely different in design and look especially with the anodized aluminum back. It looks more like a redesigned fifth generation iPod Touch instead of a compressed iPad 4.
iPad Mini weighs less because its screen size has been reduced. The Wi-Fi only version of iPad Mini weighs just 308 gm which is less than even half of the iPad 4 weight. It is slimmer as well – 7.2 mm as compared to 9.4 mm (iPad). It is equipped with a 7.9 inch 1,024 x 768 IPS LCD which is significantly smaller in size if compared to all the iPads introduced so far.
Holding a seven-inch tablet is a joy for all of us as it is not at all cumbersome holding the device in one hand and using the other to tap on it. Same goes for the Nexus 7 which is easy to carry as well. Overall, it is very convenient to carry the iPad mini because of its slimmer dimensions. Applications
Being a new Apple product to the market, most of the apps that are optimized for the existing iPhone and iPad are not yet applicable to iPad Mini. However, it is expected that very soon this limitation would be done away with by Apple. Presently this is a disappointment for users.
Virtual memory
RAM or virtual memory, which is required for running applications smoothly on the device is another limitation for iPad Mini users. While the iPhone carries 1 GB RM and the iPad 4 carries 2 GB, the iPad Mini has just 512 MB that works as a limitation if you are assigning your tablet tasks related to high end graphics. Moreover, because of the low RAM the device can perform slow and takes longer in loading programs or displaying browser contents.
Processor
Here also, you would feel little disappointed as the Mini iPad has a weaker processor as compared to the iPhone. Processor plays an important role or it is the central point around which every activity in the device takes place so it needs to be powerful enough to handle all the tasks smoothly. The iPad mini has dual core 1GHz processor which is marginally weaker than the iPhone dual core 1.2GHz processor.
Performance and battery life
During various tests iPad Mini has exhibited tremendous battery life which is better than all its rivals including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Google Nexus 7, Motorola Xoom 2, RIM BlackBerry PlayBook, Toshiba Thrive and others. During a standard battery test it lasted upto 12 hours and 43 minutes. It is the best battery life ever managed by any of the tablet even better than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, which is so far known as the tablet with the best battery life.
The iPad Mini is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor coupled with 512MB of RAM, the same configuration which was used in second-generation iPad – iPad 2. It almost equals the iPad in benchmark scores, which are used to accurately measure the performance of processor and memory. Its processor scores 751 for Geekbench benchmark.
Camera
iPad Mini is equipped with a better camera than the iPad 2 however, you neither find HDR nor the Panorama mode that are offered with the iPhone 5. It has a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 lens coupled with a 1.2-megapixel Facetime HD front camera.
Video capturing capability of this device is also reasonably good. It can easily shoot at 1080p like any other latest Apple device. But disappointment would be there because of the lower resolution sensor and absence of image processing chip. Because of this, image stabilization would not be as good as you experience in the iPhone 5. So while shooting with the iPad Mini remember two things – first hold the device properly to prevent shakes and always prefer a well lighted place.
Price and versions
The iPad mini is available in three versions in terms of storage capacity. It is available in 16/32/64 GB of storage options. The device equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity and 16 GB of storage costs $329, another with 32GB storage option costs $429 and the premium one with 64GB storage capacity would cost $529.
The iPad mini with Wi-Fi as well as cellular connectivity with 16 GB of storage capacity costs $459. The 32GB version with similar features costs $559 and the price of 64GB version is $659.
Wrap Up
Considering the iPad Mini to be a budget tablet or a shrunken-down iPad is not the right approach to analyze this remarkably good device. In many ways this can be termed as the best tablet Apple has ever produced, which is remarkably thin, light-weight and well-designed and off course with amazing battery life.
It doesn’t matter much if it is not at par with the latest iPhone or iPad because of the slightly poor resolution and marginally weaker processor but there are many things that make you forget these shortcomings. At $329, it has plenty to offer if compared to other tablets by Apple.
On the basis of above discussion it can be logically assumed that iPad Mini deserves your attention and consideration if you are out in the market looking for a 7-inch tablet. With a trimmed price tag, superb design and ready access to tablet-optimized apps, it is one of the devices that you shouldn’t miss out just because of poor screen resolution. In one word, this is truly an Apple product and you must have it.
Somewhere between mid 2009 and early 2010 rumours of an Apple produced tablet computer were reaching a fever pitch. Even as the information released became seemingly more accurate, I had doubts. I couldn't see a purpose for a device in a market already containing notebooks, desktops and smartphones.
My mind changed when, out of curiosity, I picked up a DVD case and held it as if it were a tablet. All at once the form-factor made sense. Much larger than a phone, but still incredibly portable.
Later in 2010 the iPad was released. A groundbreaking piece of technology but not exactly DVD-case-sized. In hindsight it's probably fair to say that the original iPad was too big and too heavy. It's probably fair to say the 3rd (and 4th) gen iPad is still too heavy. At least Apple now has an answer. The iPad mini - a roughly DVD-case-sized tablet computer.
I have owned every generation of the iPad since the first one launched, such is the cost of being a developer. The iPad mini is the best one yet. Holding the device, it feels much smaller. Actually using the device, it feels like a full-sized iPad.
There are already tonnes of reviews that go into great detail about the hardware but there's one point they all either miss, or express the contrary to my findings. The use of productivity apps.
The general consensus seems to be that the iPad mini is more obviously a consumption device. Now no-one would sanely argue that there aren't fantastic productivity apps for the iPad; Photoshop touch, iPhoto, iA writer (the app I'm using to write this review) to name a few.
Many have at least implicitly suggested that a large screen is better for these sort of apps. Of course the thing about all these apps is that they are optimised for touch. So it figures that a device that makes single and multi-handed operation easier stands to make using these apps easier. This is precisely my experience. Whereas the iPad can feel unwieldily, the iPad mini is agile and easy to manipulate. A good example of this is the offset curser tool in Photoshop touch. Designed to allow precision input, the tool places a cursor a few centimetres away from your finger. Touching the screen with a second finger invokes whatever the tool is intended to do. When used with a large iPad this tool only really works with the index and second fingers leaving your hand hovering. On the mini, thumbs can be used leaving the hands free to grip the device. This interaction feels genuinely better on an iPad mini.
Within a maximum of 24 months Apple will release an iPad mini with a retina screen, and probably an A6x processor. When this future device comes, the iPad will have reached a point of perfection. Until then the 2012 iPad mini holds that accolade.
N.B. Now we have intelligent input detections, might we see a 9.7 inch iPad with the thin portrait bezel? It sure would save some weight.
Apple announced its newest, though not so shocking shock, on Oct. 23, the Ipad will Finally be released the 1st part of November, and previously the reviews on it are coming in quickly. It will be a much smaller tablet both in size; no thicker than your average pencil and in weight; image a sheet of paper, than the previous model. In your hand it will feel comfortable for one-handed reading or scrolling through webpages. It is rumored that you will be able to hold it and use your browse to turn pages or scroll or play games, but most probably it's still a little too big to fit inside your pockets.
If you are too impatient to wait to get yours in November then have no fear you don't have to wait in line with the rest of the world. You can pre-order starting this Friday to ensure you are one of the initial people you know to try it out and see what all the hype is about.

How much can we expect to pay for it? Apparently its value is a little more than assumeed but Apple has said that it will only cost you around $329.00 and that it will only connect to the net via wi-fi and yes, just so you know in case you're a first time proprietor, they do offer no commitment data plans. Apple seems to think it should appeal to people wanting who are seeking for a less expensive Ipad than their previous version and probably some of the e-reader fans will change over to it as well.
Dont let the smaller screen fool you although. Even with the smaller text on the screen it will still be particularly easy to read, the movies will be crystal clear, and there is a lot to be said for its wide viewing angles.
This new ipad will also have two spy cameras same as the previous larger model. The camera on the back is a large five megapixel camera and on the front you will find a 720p camera with facetime and image stabilizing. Then, if you want to, you can share your photographs with all your friends and family via the very common icloud application.
Battery life on it is count oned to be about ten hours which should give you lots of time to play with all the standard Apple features and applications and still read e-books between charges and that could be a very good thing considering that the new cheaper, lighter ipad version will give you more freedom to take it with you wherever ever you choose to play, surf, read or watch videos. With the 1000's of applications available for Apple devices, you will never have a chance to get bored with it and considering all its internal storage you will also have lots of room to shop all the applications, movies, photographs, and e-books you could possibly want.
It's sleek and sturdy aluminium case comes in either black or white coloured and has a glass touch screen that shouldn't reflect light too bad considering they have said it is at a 75% reduced glare score. If you desire more colour, however, they will offer addresses in a variety of shades that you will be able to purchase for about $39.00 if you don't currently have one that will work on it from a previous model.
