meet DOYOON KANG, the MAIN DANCER of ECLIPSE —
21 years old, bisexual, an aries, UNSAVORY AND UNHOLY, ur local pathological liar with mighty good intentions
where to begin with doyoon ........
ok so he was born in daegu and grew up there. his family was always extremely dysfunctional, but there wasn’t a lack of love rather than a lack of order. his parents were constantly bouncing between freelance jobs and picking up new hobbies. being the only child, he was carted around to all of these things, so much so that school had become an escape from the chaos that was his parents by the time he reached elementary school and went to school the whole day
his parents expected him to be like them, of course. they tried new things all the time so by the time he was 7 he had already played like 10 sports. they tried to get him to be interested in something beyond his nintendo 64
they were hesitant in putting him in ballet because they knew the connotations that might come with a little boy and ballet, but he wasn’t anymore unenthusiastic about it than the other lessons they sent him to. after the first class, tho, he only wanted to go back. by the 3rd, he didn’t wanna do anything else – not even video games or school.
his commitment shocked even his parents. all throughout school teachers were always surprised to hear abt his packed schedule, as it was not evident that he had no time to do assignments in those assignments. from middle school onward, he would go straight from school to ballet and work even after his classes ended. this didn’t give him much of a social life or much to talk about with his school friends so he just kinda... started bullshitting
after a while, his instructor pushed him into other styles, which he picked up at the drop of the hat. she believed he would do great things and pushed him to audition for dance conservatories all over the world and once he graduated (a year early) he wound up in new york city
all his life the people he’s been surrounded by were either 1) the classmates he had known since little league and 2) the other ballet dancers who were too busy to look up. in new york tho.. things changed. he was surrounded by attractive people all the time and tho, still, most of the other ballet dancers wouldn’t give him a second look, there were a few who were always putting themselves in his eyeline, tacking themselves to his side
dancing in nyc changed his view on a lot of things, including the fact that his personal life maybe could be more than an amalgamation of white lies. still, he was chronic in his lying. it’s more rare to find him telling the truth...
he, and a few other pals from his conservatory, jokingly participated in an iris audition in their offseason... but he ended up getting the call and for some reason, he felt pulled to the company and to the group. he went in as a trainee freshly 18 and excelled. so many of the people he was working with commended him on his ability to dance just about any style and make it his. he struggled with things outside of dance, especially the idea of having to engage with press and having a public image lmao
tldr ballerino with a penchant for lying and flirting, slightly too into himself and the idea of living his life how he wants, but that’s mostly ok....
