What is a Keyholder?
A "Keyholder" is a term for a magical girl who has their soul, fragment of soul, or item of significant personal value put inside of their Soul Key.
Soul Keys are exactly what they sound like: physical vessels, commonly key or keylike objects, that your soul is stored in. This item is essential for transformation.
What do Keyholders fight?
The Exposed. An Exposed is an entity made from negative energy; they tend to latch onto memories or events of the people in order to gain power. Exposed, if given enough time, can turn their victims into Exposed as well. However, only Keyholders can become exposed without assistance.
Wait, Keyholders can what..?
Keyholders can, in fact, become exposed. To no surprise to anyone who has watched Madoka Magica, Keyholders become Exposed through the process of Erosion. Currently, I've identified 3 stages of Erosion.
Stage 1 Mental health begins to decline intensely. Pain is possible. Most notable system is a shift of morals/motives, or intense rationalization of extreme negative actions. This part is recoverable with perseverance and mental health care. Note: if you are suffering from long-term mental health symptoms, reach out to a therapist.
Stage 2 Visual changes occur. Becomes an Exposed, but retains a human figure somewhere. Can be roughly communicated with. This is where one can no longer save themselves, and requires the aid of others.
Stage 3 Terminal. The Exposed has been left unchecked for too long, abandoned with no one to help that poor soul. No human remains, only monster. Treatment: kill ASAP to prevent other casualties and to end the Keyholder's suffering.

Here's the thing... I don't know.
So far, I am the only Keyholder I am aware of outside of astral encounters. All of this has been collected from my own experiences. But my origins were weird... it was like I made a desperate plea to the universe, and it took pity on me and made me who I've always wanted to be, a magical girl.
