it’s clear that the story is leaning towards faerin and anduin being an item and aside from the fact that anduin not being canonically queer is nauseating to me personally i do think that they narratively would make a terrible couple.

faerin right now is the light’s most perfect girl who has never done anything wrong. everyone knows and recognizes this. she is lawful good and morally untouchable. anduin has also been treated this way for pretty much his entire time in the story. they are two perfect people.

and that’s BOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRING. first and foremost faerin should not become simply “anduin’s wife” but also she should have flaws and do fucked up stuff sometimes!! secondly so should anduin.

my ideal scenario is this: faerin is going to be our intro to the arathi empire obviously. she’s going to go with us to the empire and we’ll be introduced to the emperor and empress yadda yadda. there’s been hints in the lore that the empire is going to be ruled by a system of theocratic fascism and i want that to be the case because i think it would be interesting and because it’ll show that the light is not inherently good or evil it depends on the wielder, kinda like how the void is being handled now. and we’ll probably have a storyline involving overthrowing the empire.

here’s the twist though: anduin and faerin are getting closer and closer. they start acknowledging their feelings for one another. we meet faerin’s family and they want to welcome her back with open arms. she’s a decorated and highly skilled paladin now after all, and they regret immensely treating her the way they did when she ran away. or maybe it was all a big misunderstanding!! suddenly anduin not only has faerin but he also has an entire family, with aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents and PARENTS. and things start really looking up.

but as the rebellion starts brewing faerin’s family claims neutrality. they claim they’re not going to fight. anduin comes back to help us, and so does faerin, but something feels off. then we learn we have a mole. in the eleventh hour, we learn it’s faerin. her family is still loyal to the empire and its leaders because if they do well crushing the rebellion the emperor promised to elevate the lothar house to a position right below the emperor and empress themselves, and who would be foolish enough to turn down a chance like that to join a rebellion that will be annihilated by the empire?

anduin proposes to faerin the night before the big battle and she accepts. they’re so happy together. but when we pull him aside to tell him that the mole is faerin, he becomes furious. he refuses to believe us. faerin is a good woman, the best thing that’s ever happened to him, he tells us. she would never do that. and yet she is. the emperor and our dinky little rebellion are in a standoff, and faerin’s family appears behind the emperor and summons her over. she goes to them, to the shock and horror of no one save for anduin.

the emperor tells anduin that he will make stormwind a territory of the empire, their foothold in the eastern kingdoms. he can do this the easy way, or the hard way. faerin is kinder. she reminds anduin of all the hardship stormwind has been under, is still under. barely anything in the way of an army, famine and insurgents in westfall, poverty rampant. the empire could fix all of that. they could still be together, and so happy. her family adores him. she will marry him just like they wanted, and they can lead stormwind as governors on behalf of the empire.

and, for a moment, anduin actually considers it. genn and shaw are horrified and try to talk him down. shaw especially is terrified. he was raised from birth to defend stormwind, and he will not see it fall to /this/.

the emperor suddenly pulls faerin in front of him and puts a blade to her throat. he says he’s getting impatient, and reminds anduin that the only choice he has here is whether or not he will join willingly, or be made to join. the empire stops for nothing and no one, certainly not a boy king from a backwater little fiefdom.

then someone shadowsteps behind the emperor and attempts to kill him, and the whole area erupts into chaos. in my mind this takes place in either a palace or a cathedral of light, and eventually the entire building is coming down. anduin attempts to save faerin but is pulled away at the last second by shaw and both of them watch as faerin is crushed beneath the oppressive weight of the empire. she was raised to be its servant, its tool, and was used accordingly and discarded, as all expendable tools are and as all empires do. the rebellion has lost this battle, but eventually wins the war
