“Welcome to ‘CaveBoy’ Island - Zeek's Zeal” || Oil & Acrylic on Canvas || 24x36” Canvas 🖼 🌴 🏀 “CaveBoy” Island was created to symbolize and recognize my younger cousin, Isaiah Jackson’s (@isaiahjackson22) academic and athletic transition from high school to college, joining the powerhouse program at University of Kentucky. It was a humbling conversation with my older cousin, Maurice (Wes) Jackson, (@prodigal_moe) Isaiah’s father who requested the piece created. He had his specific needs when discussing imagery in the beginning and a few along the way, but had all faith to let me do my thing, respectively as an artist. Isaiah is deemed “CaveBoy” by his father due to Isaiah’s courageous, relentless and strong prowess shown as a baby and toddler. Those same qualities never left. Because he has a calming, humble demeanor, he identifies with palm trees which symbolize continuous resolve and search for serenity and peace within. The leaves hanging from the corner present an opening and glimpse into some of Isaiah’s more notable characteristics. He maintains a low-profile-personality you may encounter or perceive from a far. Not the same in his arena, where, on the hardwood, baseline to baseline, he erupts with passion for the game he loves and has finetuned over the years with hard work, focus, and determination. Due to the fact he is an isolated force down on the block to be reckoned with, I wanted to place him in his paradise and element… an island. He is surrounded by wildcats on the prowl as he lures and dares contenders to inhabit his protective space. And much like an island, there are calm seas, but never mistake the turbulent tides.
