It was only a half our into their watch and nothing alarming had happened, but Joon Woo couldn’t help the anxiety that swirled inside him. The humidity was starting to form a thin mist, but he couldn’t help it. He knew he had no right to complain—he’d volunteered to help patrol Eonia’s borders after all, but that didn’t mean he was particularly excited at the prospect of running into a drakon or whatever else had been attracted to the university while the barrier had been down. At least he had good, if not quiet, company beside him to wait out the long shift.
“Hey, Isang? Did you know the girl who…,” Joon Woo couldn’t bring himself to say it. The news had been hard to process when he’d first heard. He hadn’t known Paige, but it still saddened him that the whole reason they were doing patrols was because of a young girl’s death. “Um, well, I just can’t help thinking that could’ve been any of us. And now here we are, playing guards in the middle of the night hoping a drakon doesn’t pop out of the bushes.”
Joon Woo paused, a thought suddenly occurring to him. He looked over at Isang curiously. “Wait, why are you patrolling, anyway? I thought you didn’t like fighting?”
