I'm creeping up on 50% done with book, and then at 60% will be Big Moment, which I'm really looking forward to writing.

It's becoming a better book all the time. I'm really Writing a Book this time and not just writing; which was how I finished all my other books- unbearable messes I couldn't look at once the dopamine of Finishing a Book (which i did not, i finished a first draft) wore off. Shoutouts and love to all my friends I feverishly forced my unfinished work off on in search of validation for my effort.

It's taken me years to develop a system which corrals my unmedicated brain into crafting and not merely regurgitating words, and it's a constant work in progress. It's taken a lot of effort and growing pains. I am very resistant to change by nature, which is not something I enjoy about myself, but I get better all the time!

I don't know if the book will be good. I don't know if it'll find an audience, or have an audience that isn't me. I'm okay with that; it's a very confrontational and political work and maybe having an audience isn't the best thing for it right now.

But damn I'm learning a lot.

I think my favorite trope in middle grade books is how firmly the narrator manages to convince themselves they're going to have a "normal" anything. (vacation, walk, school year, etc)

Like it's definitely not healthy in any way, but I admire their total commitment to it. like, bud. did you see the cover of this book? the MC tries so hard to have the major plot point not happen so hard, and they never succeed.

oh god. What if the remastered version of les mis is just like the Buffy remaster where they pass an airbrush filter over it and also make everything look bad
