WARM || Nanami Kento

The people around you—your friends and family—often ask you if you’re sure of Nanami. They like him, yes, but they’re worried that you’re the only one putting in the effort since he seems so done with everything. He’s never sweet towards you. So cold and formal, they said. You deserve someone better and warmer.
But you disagree. Nanami is sweet and warm to you, especially in these late-night quiet moments when he'll let you do whatever you want, even if it makes him look stupid.
The air is cold and you’re full after dragging your willing victim to a newly opened eat-all-you-can restaurant near your apartment.
You can see other people dashing to go home or wherever they want to be because of how late it is, while the hand holding you is keeping you from falling face-first on the sidewalk.
He’s wearing his usual work attire, having been dragged by you right after work. He frowns as he listens to the voice on the other line.
"Nanami ~" you sang as you used his left hand to twirl yourself. The boredom is making you extra hyper and you’re determined to have fun, even if it means bothering him.
You swayed his left hand, feeling less bored now. He moved to place his phone in between his shoulder and ear when you moved to grab his right hand.
He lets you grab his right hand while he wills himself to be polite to his acquaintance on the other end of the line. You hear the words busy and doing something important in between. His so-done-with-shit expression is permanently etched on his face as he listens intently.
"Nanami ~" you continued to sing. "Always so busy ~"
You hum his name as you pretend that you’re dancing with him. You feel out of breath already and the cold is seeping into your hoodie.
He looks at you when you almost slip on the cold ground. You giggled as he steadied you, mumbling a soft apology.
"...I told you... busy..."
You continued to hum and sway as you observed the people from where you were standing with him on the sidewalk. The sounds of car honks, laughter, chattering from other people, and a distant yell from someone accompanied you as you waited for Nanami to finish his call.
He interlocked your fingers with his left, pulled you close, and kept you tucked against him. You sway as you observe a couple giggling as they try to hail a cab. A cab stopped in front of them, and the boy opened the door for his female companion, and you giggled at the shy glance of the girl.
You looked up to see him looking down at you. "Oh, you’re done?" You brightened and his eyes softened. He nods slowly. "Why didn’t you tell me?"
"You were busy." is his simple reply as he tucks you more securely against him. You don’t feel cold anymore. "Are you done watching people?"
You hummed in affirmation. He nods, still holding you. He didn’t let go, relishing the feel of your body against him. You sway as you continue to observe, breathe, and feel his warmth.
If only your loved ones could see and feel how warm he is, then they wouldn’t worry, but this is fine too. More than fine, actually.
You want to be the only one who sees how he loves—in silence, in actions.
"Let’s go." You looked up at him. He nods, placing a gentle kiss on top of your head. "Nanami ~"
His eyebrows rose when he heard what you called him.
"Kento." He puts his coat over you and grabs your right hand as he leads you back to your apartment. You tightened your hold on his hand, your cheeks warming. "It’s Kento, love."
