“Wait, wait, wait, hold on,” said Mahir, holding up his hands, “you said they’re a bartender? Wouldn’t that mean they’re—”
“They’re only nineteen,” Francis said defensively, and everyone gasped, varyingly scandalized or delighted.
“Francis!” Morrigan cried out, falling firmly on the scandalized side of things. Nineteen? That was a whole grown adult! That was practically Miss Cheery’s age! “We’re only fourteen, you know you can’t—”
“Yes, yes, I know!” Francis said, as fretfully as ever, but there was the slightest hint of steel underlying his voice. “But I’ll be fifteen in a month and six days, and then that’s only a four year age gap, and once we’re both in our twenties, it really shouldn’t matter—”
“It matters right now, mate,” Hawthorne said, with a grin that was somehow simultaneously very sympathetic and also not at all. “Sorry to break it to you.”
Or: Unit 919 deals with the very typical teenage rite of passage that is highly inappropriate crushes. That's right: crushes plural.
