Wrongfully taking this as dismissal, Everplant hurried past him, though Scarab effortlessly reached out and caught her stretching vine in the crook of his arm, holding her in place by it. Her petiole felt oddly thin, he noted distantly as he stared down at her, watching with satisfaction as her leaves trembled. “If I turn away now, you’ll get Za’baby’s lunch, and make sure that everything is back in its proper place, isn’t that right?” Everplant pulled back, and Scarab let her, releasing her without fuss. “I will!” “Good,” Scarab said. Then he turned away. “Get to work, then.”
