Ok so bro I know how Author became Host and why he hates humans so much
He’s old as hell. Author appeared once the biggest oak tree started sprouting and was in charge of building and caring for a forest. He norished the land by himself and made his own lil space. The human villages near him started spreading rumours of some beast with wings spreading a curse within the forest and will soon infect humans too. Author didnt want that, he’s literally just vibing. He didn’t care for humans but he wasn’t going to go out of his way to mess with them (1/?)

Like this whole mythology you have going in is super cool, I love it!! And this makes Host and Eric's interactions so interesting! Like even though they don't agree about humans, they still have the common goal of keeping the forest safe and healthy. And even though Host is all like "humans suck and one day they'll disappoint you" I bet a part of him hopes Eric never loses that openness. He remembers how happy he used to be as the Author and feels awful that his own hatred has changed him so much that he can't be the sole protector of the forest anymore ;m; And then there's Eric, just vibing and being cute uwu
