Was talking about my interest in 1900s - 1910s polar exploration with someone just now and they said that they were reading a book about when some guys got stranded in Antarctica and it was so cool and my astute ass immediately said ahhhh yesss the Ross Sea Party I love those guys! And she agreed with me and then after we finished our conversation I remembered about a certain fellow named Ernest Shackleton who had a bit of a dilemma with his ship the Endurance in the Weddell Sea

I am NOT thinking about them. like ever#but yes I do know Ernest Shackleton he was a pretty cool fellow like first he got divorced from Wilson and Scott on his first pole attempt#and then sent very yearning letters to Bill about it and then he took some wonderful and lovely geologists with him#to the Heart of the Antarctic and then he went on the Quest and died :(#oh yes the 1910s what was he doing in the 1910s....#well first he was convincing Mawson to join him on some sort of gold mining expedition instead of paying the geologist normalstyle#and uhm he also served in wwi in murmansk with alllll of his polar buddies.#I suppose he spent the rest of the decade just being a broke ass bitch#yeagh that sounds about right 👍#the Ross Sea Party were out there laying depots just cause. like for funsies. their own self fulfillment.#polar exploration#ernest shackleton#endurance#ross sea party#imperial trans antarctic expedition#itae
