Im going to info dump about Mars now.
Olympus Mons on Mars is three times the height of Mt. Everest and it would probably be very easy to climb because of its gradual slope, and its roughly the size of Arizona.
At the poles it can get so cold during the winter on Mars that carbon dioxide will condense out of the atmosphere and freeze into ice. Its so freaking cool! That isnt the only evidence of water on Mars either! There are canyons and stuff that have evidence that they were made by flowing water, rovers have found evidence of water soaked rocks on the surface! Going back to the ice caps on the poles, some of the ice will stay on the southern pole and it has massive effects on the climate.
Speaking of the climate, did you know that it can snow on Mars!? The snow is made of frozen carbon dioxide instead of hydrogen dioxide. The snowflakes are very fine and usually appear as a sort of fog instead of falling snow. Dust devils are seen during spring and summer and can cover the entire planet in a massive dust storm at times! The current theory on why the storms can get so big is dust particles absorbing sunlight and this begins to warm the atmosphere. The warm air starts flowing toward the colder regions making wind. This starts lifting more dust that gets warmer and creates a cycle effect where more and more dust is lifted up making it warmer and warmer and making more and more wind. Eventually you get a humongous dust storm! Cool right?
Mars is really really cool and I love this planet a lot. A lot of this info is regurgitated from online articles I've read and what I remember from documentaries I've seen, I'm at work and don't have time to do a full proper tumblr essay right now. But thank you for listening to me be excited about a giant space rock!
