Hollow Knight is a sad and depressing game, yet despite that, despite how Hallownest is a former kingdom full of only suffering and tragedy that is cruel and unkind to everything including Ghost, despite being made by the Pale King to not feel or think or even live, if the player unlocks the specific ending, Ghost is able to be this beacon of hope for Hallownest even if they don't get to live to see it. A hope the kingdom has never had before.

Ghost was a vessel with no name until Hornet gave them one. Ghost was not supposed to live and they did and the world they live in is cruel and sad and hope has all but died in it. And yet despite that, despite the Pale King's intention of creating vessels to die or be locked in chains, Ghost can do the impossible and carve a path for themself, one that gives those deprived of a life of their own, a future.

They can free the Hollow Knight from their shackles and provide some new life for them free of their prison, a kinder life. They can allow an unknowable amount of Shades created by the Pale King just to die, a chance to return to their bodies and thus, a chance at a future one where they are allowed to live. They can rid Hollownest of the infection providing a better future for all who live in the ruined Kingdom, not just the vessels.

Ghost can become more then what they were made to be, they can become a beacon of hope even if they may not live to see it. A beacon of hope they never got to have.
