Actually, I do. But you’ll probably never see this because I’m too much of a chicken shit to make myself vulnerable to you.

We met a while ago, but I’ve only started to notice you more recently.

The way you light up when you talk about new things in your life. The way you get excited every time you mention what happened at work. The love in your eyes when you talk about your son. The disappointment in your body language when life knocks you so hard that it feels like the 10 steps forward you just took seem like they weren’t even worth it. Even the way the pain inside of you looks when you can’t hide it in your face anymore.

You are worth so much more than you can see right now.

I have long and frequent conversations with your mom about you and everything that’s going on in your life that you don’t share with everybody. My heart breaks because of the fact that you feel like nothing you do is ever good enough.

What you’re going through right now is nothing that I would ever wish on anyone. You are broken. I just wish you could see that there is so much more on this Earth for you to do and see before your time here is up. You have so much more life to live.

I don’t want this to make you feel guilty for staying when all you want to do is leave, I just want you to understand that everything is temporary.

You will make it through whatever this life throws at you. You will live to get excited about more new things in your life. You will live to tell many more stories about what happened at work. You will live to love your son throughout his life, see him grow and be so proud of the man you raised him to be. You will make it.

Every step forward is worth it.
