In my netflix watch of the new who, I am a few episodes away from Matt's first episodes and I am like... hey, uh, I'm not ready for a change yet. Also... moffat is a plague.
I went on way more than I intended to here so I'm just gonna slide it under a cut
Now see season 5 isn't really bad. I liked so much of season five. Season five was pretty aite.
in my humble opinion.
but season six things start seeming strange, but you hang in there, hoping for the glory of season seven
and then season seven is just completely dead.
Now, this isn't a beef with the actors. The actors are all pretty fantastic. Some of them, like Alex Kingston and John Hurt transcend shitty writing so much that you kind of forget that their existence in the show is a complete nonsensical WTFery. Matt Smith is a rad dude, he does what he does well. I always loved Karen and Arthur, though by the end I really hated Amy, and JLC is precious, but Clara has to be the most hodepodged quirktastic little ball of confusion. That's not JLC's fault. she does her job.
it's just. moffat. it comes down to shit writing, or rather, a shit head writer. You can see the husks of several great episodes in this last season, and you can tell where the script got cocked up to fit in with the """"continuity""""(moffats big cockjerking plot twist of the minute) Neil Gaiman's second episode, for instance. The Doctor's Wife has to be one of the most beautiful episodes in NewWho, but Nightmare in Silver I feel fell flat. This was not Gaiman's fault. It was very obvious what parts were in Gaiman's actual script, and what parts Moffat decided to throw in for his own stupid egostrokefest.
because that is what it is when it comes down to it.
this last parade of episodes has just been Moffat using the best show ever to stroke his dick, so he can spoodge his name into WhoHistory and never be forgotten as the big cumstain that CHANGED EVERYTHING~~~~
More than his nonsensical twists, more than his constant misogyny, more than his misunderstanding of the way the world views things, I hate him for making such big decisions for the show. (like completely invalidating the first seasons of NewWho. people can argue it all they want. he fucking invalidated everything in the 50th.)
because he's got no idea what it's about.
Look. Long story short, the episodes just start to lose the feel of Doctor Who.
It's no longer about the adventures by season 7. Where they are and what they're doing is no longer very relevant. It's background fodder while we focus on the BIG MYSTERY REGARDING THE DOCTOR OF THE SEASON OHOOHOBOY
I just. I miss when it was WHO ARE WE SAVING THIS WEEK and not WHAT IS THIS BIG FLAWED UNDERLYING MYSTERY TO JAZZ ME UP FOR NO REASON
itsconsiderate answered to your post “Which Would You Rather See; More Episodes Featuring the 9th Doctor, or Steven Moffat stepping down as Head Writer?”
As much as I love the 9th, I don't see how that would work really. Also, I don't hate Moffat.
Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying it was logical or possible, but I always find myself pining for more of Nine, and I was just considering this wonderful alternate reality where we could have had more. *(Even if there was some magical way, I have the feeling Eccleston wouldn't be interested)
The question I posed was comparable to 'Which Would You Rather Exist; Unicorns or Mermaids?'. They're not going to happen so it doesn't matter, but it's just something to ponder.
