Why is Good Friday called 'good' when the worst act of humanity in all history was committed against the most perfect and innocent person to have ever walked the earth? It is good because in that moment a good God chose to take our place, to bear our sin, and to receive our punishment. It is good because in so doing Jesus made it possible, for the first time since the Garden of Eden, for man to be in relationship with Him, unhindered by our wrongdoing. People think that they need more good than bad in their lives and they'll be ok with God when they die, but it doesn't work like that. It doesn't matter how much good there is if there is the presence of bad. Imagine being offered a meal by someone and them telling you, "yes, it's got salmonella in it, but the bacteria-free ingredients are more than the ones with the bacteria". Would you accept that meal? God cannot accept us when we are sinful, we are cut off from him even if our 'good' is greater than our 'bad'. Good Friday is good, because Jesus took our 'diseased' offering and gave us His perfect one instead. Now we can be accepted by God and know Him personally ourselves. Thank You, Jesus, for taking my place and bearing that awful punishment willingly. Thank You for loving me and others so so much. You are a good God and we worship You today and always!
