He sighed quietly, leaning forward, pressing his forehead gently against hers as he closed his eyes. He knew why. He’d known why since he’d realized it was her. They’d been so broken so young, had so damn much taken from them when they’d only been kids, and in the end when he should have been her anchor, should have been a steady support for her, he’d walked away.
Because things had ended between them when Stiles had decided he was better at his job than he was at being what she needed. Things had ended when he’d foolishly decided he understood what she really deserved.
When he’d made that choice for her.
"What if I asked you to stop?" he asked her quietly, bringing one of his hands up to gently rest on her face, thumb stroking against her cheek gently. "This is my fault," he told her, pulling back and opening his eyes to look at her. "I hurt you. I thought I was…but I hurt you, and that was not okay, and I don’t even know how to begin to make it right…”
The warmth of his skin pressed to her own and the gesture alone brought back so many memories. Images of a life that had long since passed. Things were different now, they were different and there was no way that they'd ever be able to go back to the way things were. Lydia knew that and perhaps that was why now she was a little more guarded about her emotions. It took a lot to make her crack and over the years she'd become so strong that even the mere thought of being the girl she once was made her inwardly cringe. She'd been through so much and it was due to those things that she'd become the person she was now.
Not that she was always proud of that person.
When Stiles finally spoke after what seemed like an endless period of silence her jade hues lifted to lock onto the amber ones looking back at her. His words were clearly meant to be soothing but they only served to anger her. Did he really believe that it was his fault that she'd traveled down her current path? Her head shook as she brushed off his words almost as though then meant nothing to her when in reality they meant so much more than she was willing to admit. "You think this is your fault? A broken heart didn't make me a killer Stiles, it was more than that. I don't know if I can stop, in fact I'm not even sure that I want to."
