Hi everyone! I'm trying to do my part in celebrating Juneteenth in sharing information about racism in my area!
i live just north of Indiana Avenue which used to be the center of black culture in Indianapolis. it was demolished in an effort of genocide (in a destroying of a culture sort of way) by the government intentionally giving the land to Indiana University and building the interstate on top of a thriving community of massive cultural importance. The now destroyed Indiana Avenue was a huge part of early 1900s jazz culture too; it was said to rival New Orleans in the amount of important music and musician that came out of here!
unfortunately, only the Madam CJ Walker theater and a couple of small historic neighborhood streets were saved.

it's crazy that the entirety of IUPUI and the enormous hospital complex surounding are built on the destruction of black culture and livelihood
it's super f*cked up
This history of racism in Indianapolis isn't talked about or known about on just about any of the (admittedly mostly white) circles i run in. my family is from indy, i've lived here for most of my adult life, and i didn't know any of this until i went looking for it.
Please help me spread this around, i'm trying to do my part in supporting the black community in my area. And if there's something else i can do or something i'm doing wrong, let me know
Happy Juneteenth!

Dear Graduate,
We know in these trying times you may want a refund on some of your tution or maybe a straight answer from us. Instead, here’s a poster
Windy Tree 40” x 60” compressed and vine charcoal on paper Charcoal is probably one of my favorite mediums to work with, you can really manipulate how it lays on the paper and how much you truly want on there. I was trying to go for a more whimsical vibe with this one. #charcoaldrawing #charcoal #charcoalart #blackandwhite #art #herronschoolofart #tree #treeart #blackandwhiteart #drawing #artist #iupui (at Herron School of Art and Design) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7lJZrtlvXF/?igshid=1bz34tvu2ib44
