Why I Voted to Leave the EU
I have voted three times in my life (so far), the first time being in 1974, where I voted in the General Election that saw Harold Wilson become Prime Minister. My vote in this Election was probably just because it was the first one that I was allowed to vote on, having turned 18 in 1972. I voted for Wilson, because back in those days that is what the working class did, they voted Labour (oh how times have changed). Wilson was elected of course.
I only had to wait for a year before I voted again, this time it was in The United Kingdom EC Referendum of 1975, the “Common Market Referendum” (EEC Membership Referendum). I voted in this Referendum because I realised what an important vote it was going to be. I lost in this vote because I had voted to discontinue The United Kingdom’s Membership of the European Communities and 67% of the People had voted to stay in.
I honestly didn’t take much notice of this result, I didn’t expect a “do over” or another Referendum because I had lost (unlike many today), I simply accepted what the Majority had voted for and got on with my life.
Over the years however I noticed, through the actions of different Governments, that the Sovereignty of our Country was slowly but surely being given away. It was being “pimped” by successive Governments and Prime Ministers and MP’s to what was becoming a European Dictatorship.
I had to wait patiently for 41 years before being given the chance to express my feelings for The European Union (as it is now) through another vote. I was so excited when I found out about the Referendum on 23rd June 2016. I had to register to vote again because I had long ago given up the idea of voting in General Elections or Local Council Elections, there seemed little point, just one liar following another.
On that morning of the 23rd June 2016 I couldn’t wait ti get to the Polling Station at the local school, and I was pretty much the first one in there registering my vote. I left that school happy in the knowledge that whatever happened, I had “done my bit”, I of course had voted Leave. I hadn’t taken any notice of the scare tactics and doom and gloom forecasts of the Remain side, I dismissed the promises made by the Leave side, none of these mattered to me, I voted Leave because I wanted my Country back, I voted Leave because I didn’t want my Country dictated to by the pompous, arrogant Leaders of the EU, I voted not with my head, I voted with my heart.
I didn’t bother following the Election results through that Thursday night, I mean, Leave wouldn’t win would they? All of the Polls and Media said so! Besides, we wasn’t supposed to win! The sheer arrogance of David Cameron to Dictate to the British People on what was best for them was vile, as were his co-conspirators, who’s names I cannot even bring myself to type! Cameron only proffered the EU Referendum due to constant pressure from Nigel Farrage, and letting “the plebs” have a vote on the EU was his only way of securing another term as Prime Minister. Oh how I would have loved to have been able to see his face the moment the full result was broadcast! I myself was dumb-struck! We were not meant to win! We wasn’t supposed to have beaten the Remain side! But, we had! And oh what a joy it was, especially thinking about all of those crumpled faces of those that had voted against us.
I, like most was surprised, and yet not surprised when Cameron resigned. He had put his whole career on the line with his bluff that all of the fear stories and scare tactics would frighten us enough to vote Remain, after all he had a £9 million pound leaflet printed and distributed to one and all telling us over and over again how very bad leaving the EU would be! However, the Great British People did not believe him, or his pack of dogs, we voted Leave and ended this sordid mans career.
Like all good Fairy Stories you would have thought that we Leavers finally had our “happy ever after” ending, but, it wasn’t to be was it? Who comes along? Mrs (Dithering Delaying) May, our new, though unelected Prime Minister. This woman started spouting loads of lovely Brexity words around, and some Leavers were smiling and thinking “oh, she’s going to give us what we want”, but I knew this was all hot air and words. This lady had her very own agenda going on, an agenda that even now I don’t fully understand. She is definitely delaying the invoking of Article 50, perhaps in the hopes that she can stall things long enough until the rules change on Article 50 on the 1st April 2017, when Article 50 and it’s use will have to be voted on by EU MP’s. If this happens and the EU vote against (which they would) then she can still be a heroin, saying that she “did all she could”, then calmly sit back and plan for a General Election that she would undoubtedly win. She would win simply because she would have no viable, electable opposition. Labour is in a mess, the LibDems are a bunch of idiots, the Greens, never gonna happen, and sadly for us I don’t think that UKIP are quite ready yet, they have their own issues that must be resolved before becoming a really serious contender.
But, not only do we Leavers have Theresa May to deal with, we also have a bunch of weasly Remainers who have embarked on a Court Case to try to give Parliament a final vote on invoking Article 50, even though like me, like you, like everybody, yes, even those whinging MP’s have already had a vote, it was called the EU Referendum, but to these bad losers that one didn’t count, why? Well because they lost of course! They know that such a vote by MP’s would throw out Article 50 altogether.
I am both saddened and enraged by all of this, I waited 41 years to be able to vote on the EU again, and I, we, won! Why must we, how can we just sit idly by and watch this group of sore losers take away our result? Why should they be allowed to stamp all over our Democratic Vote? It is very sinister and shameful that these “people” should think that they are better than us, that they know what’s best for us, that we are too dumb, too stupid, too poor and uneducated to have our vote matter!
Well, my vote DOES matter, and so does YOURS, and I will fight with everything that is in me to have my vote be upheld. If this means demonstrations, if this means protests, if this means riots...then so be it.
I am prepared to stand up for my vote, I am prepared to stand up for my country...are you?
