I remember today like it was yesterday. I just dropped of my kids off at pre-school. I came home and was reading the local paper while watching NBC morning news show. I watched the news unfold. Headlines running across the bottom of my screen. I immediately called my mother bc her sister and my cousin live in NYC and was concerned. I heard the panic in her voice. A panic I've never heard before. She fibally got ahold of her big sister and was relieved to hear her voice. I called the father of my daughter (now my husband) to make sure he was okay. He wanted his daughter home, and looking back I couldn't blame him. I went and got my children. Everyone was walking around like zombies. Not knowing what or who to trust. Teachers worried about family and friends. When I got home I continued to watch everything unfold. Every channel. All the day long. I remember the feeling of not knowing who would do such a horrible thing. Horrible. Horrible. What a word. It's the only word that I can use to describe what happened. I will always remeber the people that put themselves in harms way to save strangers. The first responders putting thier lives on the line. Some made it. Others did not. I will always remember. I will never forget. My heart will always be with NYC. When my daughter and I traveled to NYC, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take her to the World Trade Center Memorial site...we were there for a long time and I watched her take everything in. The timeline of events, the carnage of the fire trucks, the remaining parts of the buildings, the memorials and facts from family members and the victims themselves. It was a powerful visit for us and it brought back so many memories of that day. I will never forget and I hope that others won’t either. America for all its faults is a wonderful and blessed place to live.
