Author’s Note: Because I like making myself sad. No, I always thought the concept of The Beast deceiving those desperate enough was kind of cool but wrong you son of a bitch. So I thought regardless of what I did with this AU, OoT Zelink would be perfect for it. I haven’t written in so long, forgive me.
Darkness filled the forest throughout, cutting off any visibility whatsoever.
The only light was the light from the lantern that sat on the ground in front of them.
She stared in horror, hands trembling and breath almost non-existent. Blue eyes fixed upon the figure that stood before her.
The branches began to creep up. They snagged and tore at the loose clothing worn by the boy in green until the branches slowly surrounding him held him firmly in place.
“No…” she whispered, tears slowly starting to fall down her cheeks as she moved closer to the lifeless body covered in branches.
She reached out, hands instinctively reaching out for the pale cold cheeks she became so familiar with.
He used to be so expressive. Always smiling, always laughing, and occasionally pouting because she had teased him.
But now, he was expressionless.
“Link… No, please wake up. Please come back…” she breathed through tears, her voice breaking each time she said his name. She reached for his face barely made visible by the branches. Fingertips grazing his pale cold skin, no feeling of warmth anywhere she felt.
“Please… wake up… stop playing around in the branches Link… and come on.” She cried, tears filling her eyes as she grabbed at his face.
“He’s not gone.”
“Huh?… W-Who said that!” she shouted, her head whipping to peer behind her.
There stood a creature, silhouetted by the faint light of the lantern.
“I am the Beast of the Unknown, My dear.”
It moved no closer even when the young girl saw it fully. She turned around, back pressing against the boy and hands clenching into fists. She tried to seem intimidating, but the fear and worry taking over her face made her less so.
“I can help you, Zelda. He’s not gone.” The Beast spoke softly, almost filled with compassion.
“Help me?… How? You can save him? You can save Link?” Zelda spoke frantically, heart beating faster at each word the creature said.
The Beast raised its arm slowly and pointed a finger at the black lantern that sat on the ground. Zelda hesitantly moved away from Link and to the lantern, kneeling down and looking at it with curious eyes.
“How is this… lantern supposed to help me?” she asked, looking up at the Beast with tear stained eyes.
“Link is too weak, my dear Zelda. He will not make it any further with his condition now. So to help you, I can put his spirit in the lantern, so he will never die.” The Beast spoke.
Suddenly she felt her heart bang against her chest.
What had happened to Link for him to become so weak? What had this forest done to him while Zelda went off to find some more help to get home? Now she was faced with the most dreadful decision, either let Link die… or have him live but not as a physical being.
The thought of losing him made her heart ache, tears slowly beginning to fall down her face once again. How could she be discussing such a decision? She wanted to be with him. Wanted him to always be with her, forever. She couldn’t bear to leave him alone… to die…
But to have him ripped from his own body, is that not cruel enough?
She hung her head, tears falling one by one onto the darkened ground.
What… could she do for the one she loved so dearly?
“Hurry Zelda, time is running short… and so is Link’s life.” The Beast spoke.
She looked up, face broken from the thoughts that stabbed at her own mind. Her hand reached for the lantern, fingers touching the cold hard metal.
“Please… Save Link.” She spoke, words soft and low.
Soon, the sound of branches moving filled the air. Zelda quickly turned around to see them slowly begin to cover up the boy trapped within them. A small gasp of air escaped her lips as she stepped forward to it, reaching out for Link one last time.
Then she heard it, a voice so familiar ringing in her ears.
“Z-Zelda…!?”
“Link? Link! Link, no no no no!” Zelda shouted, hands trying to pry the branches from her loved one.
She beat at the wood, screamed and kicked but it gave none. He was fully covered by the branches now.
“Oh, and one more thing, my pet. In order to keep Link’s spirit alive… you must fill it with oil from the Edlewood trees.”
Zelda looked at him, eyes filled with regret and sorrow from what she had just done.
“You mean this tree before me?…” she spoke.
“If you want Link to live… you must fill the lantern… with the oil from the very tree that took him.”
Zelda closed her eyes, her heart sinking lower inside her body.
Why am I reposting this? Because the first one fell into the void and I can no longer find it. So fuck it, I will repost it and IT BETTER NO FUCKING GO AGAIN.
The splashing could be heard from miles away. It was violent, like a mini hurricane had just appeared out of nowhere. The fishermen were desperately trying to wrangle in what they had caught, shouts to just hold on tighter and pull clogging up the air. Whatever they had caught, it just wanted away. It’s desperate cries for help all in vain to the ears of the group. Finally they had pulled it inside, its tail violently slashed about, trying so hard to get back to the sea. The captain who had sat back and waited finally approached, grabbing the chin of whatever it was and jerked him into his gaze.
“Looks like we’ve got ourselves some money, lads, and a mermaid to pay all of our troubles away.”
----
“Miss Zelda please! You have got to slow down, I cannot chase you forever.”
The girl stopped and turned around, a small sigh escaping her lips as she looked on to the running woman. “Well, Impa, you wouldn’t have to chase me if you just ran with me! You’re not that old!” Zelda spoke playfully, no resentment in her voice but the teasing sound of it. Impa, the girl’s caretaker and bodyguard, finally caught up and placed a gentle but firm hand onto the girl’s shoulder. “Sweetie, you may be 17 but that doesn’t give you the right to pick on an older woman just trying to catch up with you.”
Zelda rolled her eyes and grabbed for the woman’s hand, lacing their fingers together and turning around to head down the market with Impa in tow.
Hyrule Castle Market was just as bustling as always. Vendors lined up in perfect areas for attracting eager customers and shop doors open for everyone passing by to see their wares. It was the perfect place for people from all over to buy and sell to make a good living.
And it was also a place Zelda loved coming to to get away from the exhausting life she already had. She could wander for hours, looking at everyone’s sells and even tasting a treat or two. People were friendly and they loved to entertain right there on the square. A few times Zelda even danced with some of the children where the music was most prominent. It was just the best place for activity Zelda has ever known.
“Impa! Look! The baker is selling some of those delicious sweet buns again, can we?” The girl spoke excitedly and even tugged on the woman just an inch or two. Impa gave Zelda a look but quickly agreed then was dragged away by the 17 year old to the shop. It was a bustling and sweet smelling as ever. The crowd was rowdy for the bread and other delicious treats, even shouting that they were next in line.
Zelda quickly did what she has always done before, dropped to her knees and crawled through the crowd to the front counter. She was an expert as this now, even at such an age, it’s what one had to do if they wanted some sweet bun. As soon as she reached for the counter, she popped back up to a standing position and leaned over the counter. “Two of your finest and sweetest sweet buns!” Zelda yelled at the baker, hoping to catch his attention.
Of course she did, the baker loved her, and like the daughter he had always wanted.
“Why yes of course, princess! Out today with Impa?” the baker spoke with such kindness, always happy to give Zelda what she wanted.
“Aren’t I always? Anything to get out of that castle, it’s so dreadful.” Zelda rested her chin in the palm of her hand, huffing out unwanted air from her lips.
“Dreadful? For the princess of Hyrule? Nonsense! But I hear that the king is sick?”
“It’s just the flu; everyone gets it from time to time!” Hopefully that’s all it was, Zelda thought. She hasn’t seen much of her father since he got sick, but she just thought that was just to protect her. Couldn’t have a princess getting sick and being out of commission for royal duties.
The baker had since left for the back and then he brought out the steamy and succulent buns to the young girl. She eagerly grabbed for them, placing one of them in her mouth and shielded the other as she made her way through the crowd.
“Impa! I got the buns! How abou- Impa? Why do you look so distraught?...” Zelda stopped as she reached the worried looking woman. Impa shook her head and placed a hand on the other’s shoulder softly.
“It’s your father.”
Zelda ran through the corridor with great haste, careful not to trip on the rug as she sped down. Two guards were in front of his door, guarding it with their life. They quickly moved out of the way and opened the door for the young girl. She ran inside and there she saw him, her father laid sick in his long and luxurious bed.
“Father, it cannot be what Impa told me, you had the flu just last week.” She knelt down beside the bed where he was, grabbing for his hand and holding it close to her heart. Her father, King of all Hyrule, smiled weakly at his young and only daughter.
They both looked almost exactly alike. Same striking blue eyes and pale pink skin, their features mimicking the other. If he wasn’t already greying, he would have the same golden blonde hair as his daughter. They always say that Zelda looked like her mother, but that was far from it when these two stood next to each other.
“My sweet princess.. I-I know what I have told you and I fear that I may have lied to you. The great medical advisor has told me I am getting more ill by the day. That it seems like my days are numbered... Zelda, I may not make it.” He started to have a coughing fit, one that was worse than she last remembered. Blood now sprayed from his lips, all over the deep purple sheets.
“Please do not say that, papa! You will get better! I promise! I will find every doctor within the kingdom to help you... Please, I cannot lose a father like I have lost a mother.” She squeezed his hand harder, her tone desperate and on the verge of breaking.
“My Zelda... Please, do not think of me leaving you forever. Y-You know... That your mother is always here with you... Watching you... And soon... I may have to join her and watch from where she is.”
“Papa no! P-“
“Zelda.. When my time comes... You will be queen. You will rule the land just as I have... Only when you become 17 though, but your roles will start... a-as soon as I pass...” He weakly pulled his hand from her grasp and placed it on her cheek. His hands were always so scratched and rough, but the touch always calmed the young princess.
She could no longer bear it and instantly the tears came. She pulled herself up and lightly fell on top of her father, crying hysterically and clutching onto the sheets. “I-I don’t w-want you t-to leave me p-papa!” she almost screamed the words as she buried her face into his stomach. The pressure of her body on top of the weak man made him instantly start coughing once again.
The guards rushed in, knowing that was all he could take and the meeting between father and daughter had to end. One guard looped his arm around the princess and whisked her away much to her disliking. He sat her down and mumbled a soft apology before closing the door and locking her from the room.
The tears came much harder this time. Her body trembled as she slowly slid to her knees and cried into her hands. All she wanted was for her father to be better. That she would do absolutely whatever it took to make him fit to rule again.
“So you wish to help dear old papa, ey?” The voice came out of nowhere and it startled the girl from her tears. “I know of a way to make him better. In the Desert, there is a market that holds many medicines and artifacts that make the old man well. Go there, and save dear old papa from certain death.”
Soon she saw the hunched over hooded figure, in the darkest place in the room before her fathers. They leaned on a cane, and gruesome skeleton like hand pointed straight at her.
“H-How did you get in here? And why do you care if I save my dad?” Zelda spoke through the sobs, the heels of her hand wiping the tears from her face. “Because I’d hate to see king die, people dying is very very sad.” The figure spoke as it backed up into the darkness of the corner at which he stood.
“This market?.. A-Are you sure that there is something to help my father?”
“The dark market is a place that can help anyone, young princess. Even the sick king.” Those were his final words before he just up and vanished through the walls. Zelda quickly got up and ran to the corner, placing her hand into the darkness only to feel the wall. She heaved a large sigh from her chest and turned around, running down the corridor once again.
Impa would be the only person she could trust to get her to this market. Even though Impa never wished to take Zelda to the desert, she would have to at the Princess’s demand.
So the two had set off for the Desert at night and arrived there by morning and quickly began their search for the market that the hooded figure told Zelda about. Since Zelda was Hylian, she was cloaked head to toe in order to hide her identity. Impa would be just fine, since she already looked as mean as the people here. It didn’t take them long to find the market and Zelda was sure she had found it when she started to see unusual wares not like that of Hyrule’s market.
Impa already looked uncomfortable while Zelda had this determined look about her face. She stared at every vendor, looking for a medicine that would aid her ill father. Several minutes passed by and the burning sun hot on the pair’s back, they decided to sit down and rest.
“Miss Zelda, what are we even searching for?”
“Just... something to cure him, Impa. That figure told me there was something here but I just... I ju-“Soon an interesting conversation started up behind her. She placed a finger on her lips and leaned back just slightly in order for her to hear the two women talking.
“Folklore says, a sliver of mermaid tail can help any ailing property you had.”
“Oh really? Could it cure me sister’s mind from thinking she wants to go live in Hyrule?”
“Possibly! I even heard, there is a strange captain selling a mermaid tail in the next stall!”
That’s all Zelda wanted to hear. She quickly got up from her chair and dashed through the crowd, ignoring Impa’s yells to come back or at least wait for her. This was it! This was the kind of thing she had been looking for. This piece of mermaid tail was the key to curing her father and sparing him from death.
She soon heard the shouts and ran into the tent, but what she saw was different from what she thought. He was a handsome boy.. er.. fish? Well, he had the torso of a handsome boy. His hair was a light shade of blonde and bangs that parted down the middle. His hair long but pulled into a tie behind his head. He even had pointed ears just like hers.
He was pressed inside a small cramped glass box that barely held any water. The creature looked absolutely miserable in such a cramped position, that he looked almost defeated. He looked to no one, only looking at the ground with sadness filling his eyes.
“Fresh mermaid! Caught yesterday! The tail is hardly damaged and let me tell ye, with these hands cutting that beaut off for ya, thar still wouldn’t be a knick on it!” The captain laughed as he held his machete in the air.
“Cut it off?! You mean you are to separate the poor thing from his tail? How dare you!” Zelda spoke so suddenly and loudly, her hand instantly covering her mouth. The captain eyed her from a distance and spat on the floor. “Well, wee lass, if ya want the tail, you gotta cut off the ugly being in half to get its properties.”
Zelda looked absolutely horrified, her hands instantly going to her hips as she walked over to the burly man. “You cannot do that! That is a boy attached to that tail! I will not allow you to hurt him!”
“My ware, my rules, I don’t make em up lass.” The captain leaned back and crossed fattened arms across his chest. The blonde girl looked to the poor creature inside the case. Its blue eyes dark with despair, its body seemed so thin and out of shape. She turned around and looked to Impa who had just walked in. Zelda then stood up straight and tall, raising her chin in the air and boasted loudly for all to hear.
“He’s not your ware anymore; I am paying for the poor creature.”

Author's note: This idea was a mixture between two ideas I was given. I loved it so much and even another friend did as well!
This is by far my favorite and I HOPE IT PLEASES YOU JENNY.

The window slid open with ease, not even a creak sounded from the wood.
Link took one last look around his dorm before sliding one leg out of the open window. His roommate Mido stirred but not enough to worry Link of being caught. He moved his other leg outside of the window till he was sitting on the windowsill. After whispering a few inaudible words, Link pushed off from the window.
The chilled air was harsh but it bothered Link none as he raced downwards till he hit the ground. The snow flew up around him then immediately falling back down. Link sighed in relief once he felt it all around him and got up quickly, running away from the building so no one could see where he had fallen from. As soon as Link was a safe distance away, he smiled brightly at the scenery around him.
The white sheets of snow blanketed the fields around the University like how it would be painted on a canvas. The various lanterns hung around the trees made the snow sparkle like the stars in the sky. It was truly beautiful to look at, if only Link could capture the moment.
Link’s bright blue eyes darted around the fields before he set off, walking through the snow to wherever he decided to go.
-
He needed this. School had been too rough on him as of lately; classes were getting harder, his roommate was constantly getting under his skin, Headmaster Ganon was stopping at nothing to make his life absolute hell, and the girl of his dreams rejected him due to her studies being too much to handle. On top of that, his best friend Navi was always on his case about getting things done. He knew she meant well, but, he was trying his best and she still acted like he was just goofing around.
The blonde felt like the world was out to get him all of the sudden. Like it never used to feel this way, but all the sudden it just happened all at once. It felt as though he was asleep for 7 years of his life and then woke up in hell. Just once, he’d just like to have a moment of absolute peace.
-
Link pulled his scarf up around his mouth, trying to shield his pale lips from the bitter cold that surrounded him. He walked for what seemed like an hour before stopping at a nearby frozen river. Even encased in ice, Zora’s river was still so beautiful to look at. Link stopped by the river, gazing upon the frozen ripples and the white snow that lay upon it.
A smile crept upon his face as he touched the coolness with his fingertips.
“Why couldn’t I be a calm as this river?... Or… alone. That’d be nice too.” Link said softly.
He stood up from his spot and continued on walking down beside the river, eyes fixated on it as he pushed forward. He sighed once more and looked up, only to stop dead in his tracks at what he saw before him.
A girl with wavy golden hair and dressed all in a dark pink sat alone beside the river with her knees pressed to her chest. She was the brightest thing out here, even more bright than the lanterns that hung around in the trees. Stunning, that was the word he looked for; she was stunning to look at even from afar. He had never seen her here before, so, who was she?
Link listened carefully, long ears twitching at the sudden pang of noise that entered. She was humming a soft tune, it sounded almost like a lullaby to what he could gather. She just sat there, paying attention to nothing, not even noticing Link staring at her. Perfectly contempt with what she was doing as it would seem.
Suddenly, she fell over, back hitting the ground behind her and golden ringlets flailing out from her.
The blonde male was stunned, he had no idea what was happening but it worried him none the less. What if something had happened? Did she freeze and the cold was sending her into shock? Or did she faint? The more Link thought about it, the more he felt the need to find out.
So instinctively, Link burst into a full run for her. He rushed forward then instantly his body froze from what he had felt underneath him. His foot had slipped out from under him, sending the boy sideways and falling straight for the ice. He briefly felt a sudden shock of pain to his head but his world filled with absolute darkness.
-
“Go to sleep,
Rest upon your bed,
May this night bring dreams to your head…”
The voice filled his ears and soon woke him from his slumber. It was exotic, like nothing he had ever heard before.
He could feel warmth now, not the bitter cold that nipped at him every second he was near it. Link moved his hands, feeling for whatever he had been laying on. Silk, he could feel silk but where was he at where there would be such a fabric? With what little strength he had, he raised himself up and looked around the room.
It was unfamiliar, royal purple walls with a couple posters of princesses and princes hung all over them. There was even a framed poster of a boy clad in green sitting with a girl on a hilltop. Where exactly was he? He was just in the snow and all the sudden… he’s in a room…
Soon it hit him; he whipped his head around to the voice that was still apparent in the room.
It was her. This was her room, the girl with the beautiful wavy golden hair he spotted in the snow. She was sitting at a vanity brushing her hair from tangles that must have happened due to her time in the snow. She still sang, sweetly and in perfect pitch. Link right away knew it was her from the tune she sang along to. It had been the lullaby.
“Hear my voice,
Never let it die,
Keep this lullaby…”
“Excuse me, miss?” Link spoke out, trying to gain her attention.
“O-Oh?” The girl turned around, a surprised look on her face as she met with his gaze.
She was beautiful from far away but up close… Link wondered how he didn’t just choke up and throw something at her like he used to do around pretty women. Something about this girl just made Link forget the cares of the world. But… not the questions he wanted to ask.
“You must be wondering a lot of things, so, let’s just get down to business.” She spoke softly, her surprised turning into a soft gentle looking smile.
She held out her hand, it was smaller than his but it looked much better than his calloused hands.
“I’m Zelda, and if you haven’t already noticed, you’re in my dorm room.” She spoke, the words leaving her lips slowly.
His heart thumped hard against his chest and the pain he felt in his head earlier reared its ugly face in his body once again. He smiled through the pain, not wanting to worry the girl of his condition any more than she probably did. Link held out his hand, slowly moving his hand for hers and gripping it so they could shake. “I’m Link and uh… nice… room?”
“Oh, thank you! Well… the reason you’re in here though was because I guess you decided to go running on a frozen lake and you slipped and knocked yourself unconscious. I couldn’t just leave you there and I certainly had no one to go get… so I dragged you here. Don’t worry about your clothes; the dryer is working on them as we speak.”
Link nodded his head, understanding all of it and mulling it over in his head.
“That was really sweet of you, Zeld-… Wait what?” Link looked down and gasped loudly. He grabbed for the blankets and pulled it up over his chest, covering his indecency. A blush crept onto his cheeks, the warming sensation bothering him from his nose to his ears.
Zelda couldn’t help but laugh at his cute reaction. She even started to tease him by holding her hands on the side of her face like blinders to a horse. Link gave her a strong glare but she just waved him off, pushing herself closer to the bed so she could better converse with him.
“W-Why did you strip me? My clothes were fine!” Link yelled, holding the blankets over his chest more and giving Zelda a stern look.
“Because they were wet, silly. It was snowing out there, don’t you remember?” Zelda said back.
“Of course I do… But… a man’s body is precious…?” Link stammered out.
Zelda rolled her eyes and crossed her arms on the bed where she then laid her chin upon her small arms. Bright blues looked up to his and again she giggled at him. “So, what were you doing out so late in the cold night?” she asked curiously.
“I… just wanted some fresh air.” He said back.
“But you could have just opened the window and that is that.” Zelda said.
“B-Because I was under a lot of stress, okay?” Link yelled back at her, turning himself over and facing the wall beside the bed.
Zelda hummed softly and lifted herself out of her chair. Link soon felt the bed dip as she crawled in beside him and plop next to him. Her warmth was enough to send shivers down his spine and the blush upon his face become even more so. She rested her shoulder next to his and reached for the blanket he had kept clutched to him. She took it slowly from his grasp and covered herself as well.
“Tell me about it? I know I may just be a strange girl who took your clothes off once she got you into her room, but, I am a good listener and an even greater advice giver.” Zelda spoke softly, enough to calm him from his disgruntled mind.
He looked to the girl beside him. She was staring intently at him as she waited for him to speak or even to reject her. Link sighed softly and leaned his head back, closing his eyes as he began to speak all about his troubles to this stranger.
-
Zelda just nodded, gathering every little detail and holding it in her mind so she could figure out a way to help him. Sometimes she would giggle; especially at the part of the girl he liked rejecting him, go figure. But she just apologized and urged him on after he gave her a hurtful pout.
After Link was finished, Zelda just smiled brightly.
That smile, it was something else. It should have belonged to a goddess, but instead it belonged to this brilliantly beautiful girl sitting beside him.
“You’ve been through a lot, but you know what? You’re still here. Your troubles are just battles you have yet to beat and win. You will win them, even if you get knocked down. You just gather another heart and get back up on your feet. It’s… difficult, trust me, I understand…”
A sad look came over her face suddenly, bright blues turning dark as she looked to the bed. The girl has had troubles too, it was clear, but Link could tell she was strong. Zelda looked up at him again
“But you’re strong, Link. You’re brave to wake up every day and face those battles. I admire it, your story, all those things and you’re here.” Zelda spoke softly, a hint of affection in every word she said.
Link’s heart thumped louder against his chest, face growing darker with each look her gave her.
He couldn’t help it any longer. This girl, this incredibly beautiful girl was just so interesting. The way she spoke, the way she held herself, hell, even the way she acted was something that took hold of Link and dragged him down. The blonde was so enamored with the girl, like love at first sight.
“T-Thank you… no one ever told me I was brave before nor did they really fully understand the full extent of my problems… You were the only one to actually sit down and listen.” Link spoke, his voice rattling with nervousness.
Zelda giggled and pushed up against his shoulder, her hair falling and hiding her face from him.
“It’s no problem, Link… I enjoy hearing about you more. I’d actually like to know more.” Zelda spoke, lifting her head up and revealing a blush across her cheeks as well.
The male’s heart felt like a motor inside his chest. Seeing her like that, what did it mean? Didn’t people only blush around people they liked or when something was bothering them? Was he bothering her?!
Link cursed inside her hand before being jolted out of his mind with the sensation of warmth to his lips. He looked forward to see her as close as possible to him. He could hear her heartbeat beating as fast as his was. Her lips were pressed against his in a soft but firm kiss.
Zelda pulled away first, eyes glazed over with affection as she gazed into Link’s bright blue eyes. The both of them stared at each other for what seemed like hours to the two. Their hearts began beating in time with the other. A moment of pure bliss for each.
“Zelda, I… I really like you.” Link spoke softly as Zelda leaned up and pressed her forehead to his.
She gave him a soft smile, pulling his body close to hers and wrapping her arms around him.
“I… like you too, Link.” Zelda spoke back.
Link couldn’t help but smile more as Zelda said those words to him.
Zelda leaned close to him again, lips mere inches apart from each other. Link welcomed her, embracing her further as she moved closer to give him another hopefully longer kiss.
As soon as their lips were about to meet, a knock sounded from the door and then it swung open. Zelda jerked away from him, turning attention to the door.
There stood a tall dark skinned woman with an angry scowl on her face in the doorway. She was mean looking, like someone who could break your bones with the flick of their wrist. Zelda began to quake, afraid of what was to come.
“Miss Zelda, can you tell me why there are wet marks leading to your room? Or maybe you can tell me about the half-naked boy in your bed?” The woman spoke in a very scary but stern voice towards the golden haired girl.
“I-I’m sorry Impa. I kind of… snuck out and then I saw him slip on the river, knock himself out and I dragged him back here for safety. His clothes were ringing wet and I didn’t want him getting sick… so I put them in the shower.”
Zelda hung her head in shame, head down and eyes closed for the impending punishment. Link couldn’t help but cowry in fear in the corner of the bed, a much stronger blush across his face than before. Of course this had to happen of all times.
“Is that true, boy? Did you sneak out as well and hurt yourself?” the woman named Impa said.
“Y-Yes ma’am… I’m the doofus who snuck out and got hurt…” Link replied, voice wavering on every syllable.
Impa just rolled her eyes and held up a bag, motioning for the boy. “I found these, that’s when I knew something was up. I’m going to let you off with a warning, young man. But the next time this happens, I will personally throw you out that window. Clear?” Impa said.
“C-Clear.” Link replied, sliding around Zelda and stepping onto the floor, grabbing for the bag.
“And you, next time you decide to bring a boy home late at night, don’t. I will catch you. So figure out another place for you two. Preferably away from a bed.” Impa turned to speak to Zelda.
“Y-Yes Impa…” Zelda said back.
Impa nodded her head and walked from the room, Link turned away from the door and to Zelda. He gave her an affectionate smile before speaking softly. “Meet me by the river? Same spot?”
Zelda lifted her head and got off the bed, returning the smile and running to him then pulling him into an embrace. “I’ll be there, I promise.”
They kissed once again before letting the other go, and Link left the room, closing the door softly.
He stood there in the hallway and sighed happily.
He was brave, and with Zelda by his side now… things… would be a bit easier for him.
For arkaim!~ (I LOVE YOU ARKY, I HOPE THIS PLEASES YOU)
Author's note: Forgive me for the abrupt ending, but adding more would have seemed overkill... But regardless, I am actually proud of this mess because THE AU WAS SO PERFECT.
“Oh god, why did this have to happen today of all days?!”
Of course it happened, why wouldn’t it? Today was not only the most important day of her life; it was also her only chance to get into the University of her dreams. This was the day of the biggest exam of her entire high school career that would immediately get her into Twilight University.
She worked hard, harder than anyone she had ever known to get this opportunity but now it seemed like that window was quickly closing. And what was the reason for that rapidly-diminishing chance?
It was her old and terribly off time alarm clock.
“Of course you didn’t ring, you good for nothing lousy piece of machinery. Any other day you’re waking me up at three a.m. but oh no. Not today, you decide!” Zelda said, anger already filling to the brim.
The brunette frantically ran around the house, grabbing up papers she needed that were spread throughout the house as she spent an entire week studying. With everything in tow, she put on her flats and ran for the door, throwing it open and dashing for the street.
-
“I-If I keep running at this pace, I should be able to make it there on time!”
Zelda was running as fast as she could, trying to keep composure but also trying not to run out of breath. She cursed every second she spent running towards the school. If that alarm clock had actually ringed when it was on time, then she wouldn’t have to do this. All she wanted to do was get into a nice school, was that so hard to ask?
The brunette ran till she hit a crossroad and immediately frowned at the blinking red hand that signaled all those walking had to wait. A loud groan escaped her as she started to tap her foot on the ground due to her impatience. Oh great, another thing to keep her from getting where she needed to be. “Come on! I need to get to school and this is not helping!”
After a few more minutes of waiting, Zelda’s patience was finally at its limit. A crazy idea popped into her head and the more she thought about it, the more she had to do it. She looked both up the road and down the road, making sure the coast was clear.
“Well… I mean, no one is here and this is the only option I got. So, push onwards, Zelda.”
Zelda swallowed hard and ran forward, heart pumping at the thought of danger that could happen. She closed her eyes tightly, teeth sinking into the pale flesh that was her lips. All she wanted to do was hurry across the road and finally be on her way. But things were never that easy for Zelda.
The girl fell over as soon as she got halfway through the road. She fell with a loud thud, knees getting cut up against the hard concrete and rocks sinking into her palms. “O-Ow! What in the world!?” Zelda cried out, sitting back onto her backside and examining the mess she was currently in.
“H-How did I? Oh! Seriously? Gum?” she spoke loudly and clearly aggravated.
Her distress was immediately broken with the sound of a loud motor in the near distance. Zelda looked towards the deafening noise, wandering if it was really heading her way. “Oh… no…”
It was a blue motorcycle, in the shape of a horse, with yellow markings barreling straight for her. The rider didn’t even seem to notice her; they continued riding forwards in some sort of a hurry. The fear welled up inside her like never before. She knew it would kill her if it wouldn’t move in time. Zelda tried screaming for it, waving her arms; anything she could do to make the rider stop or go by her, but it was too late.
“Why me?” She spoke softly, closing her eyes and embracing for the sweet release of death.
The wheel of the motorcycle hit first, ramming into her side like a force she couldn’t believe. The bike spun out of control from the side hit and fell down to the concrete as well. The rider pulled themselves from the wreckage and stood up shakily. They ran straight for the downed girl once they gained composure.
“Oh my god, Oh my god, I hit a person. I killed a person!” The stranger said as he threw off his helmet and knelt down beside her. He pressed the palms of his hands to either side of his head, fingers gripping at his dirty blonde hair. Tears began to roll down his face as he looked upon the body.
“I-I killed someone! I knew it! No, Midna knew it! She told me ‘Link, you’re going to end up killing someone one day with that infernal thing’ and I did!” Link said in a rushed tone, still thinking of what he should do at this point.
Suddenly, the body stirred and Link instantly hushed, hands poised over her as she slowly began to turn around.
She was badly bruised; cuts on her legs and a huge gash in her side and arm where the bike had hit her. Her nose was also bleeding as well and pebbles littered her pale cheek. Link blushed regardless though; she was still pretty even though… she was dying.
“I-I’m…-“Her words were gurgled, blood was in her mouth and making it impossible for her to be able to talk.
Link leaned closer to her, hands shaking as they gently gripped onto his thighs and not onto her bruised body. “Y-You what? Hey, stay with me now. I don’t want to lose you…” Link spoke in a hushed tone.
“I-I’m...” she coughed, hunching over and placing her hand onto her lips.
“Come on now, focus on me! I will not let you go!” Link said louder, leaning closer to her till he was just mere inches from her.
Zelda’s arm shot from their place by her side and to his shirt, fingers grabbing the collar of his shirt roughly. She leaned herself to him, hatred filling her eyes and very soul.
“I’M GOING TO BE LATE!” She screamed at him, jerking on his collar even harder.
“L-Late for what!? Death? Because honey you’re right on track if you keep moving like this. I need to take you to a hospital.” Link said back
“Hospital? HOSPITAL?,” Zelda said before coughing up yet again then returning back to her speech, “I have a University Entrance Exam to write I don’t have time for that!”
Link looked at her with horror, mouth dropping as she started to pick herself up from the ground. How eager was this girl to die? He had never ever seen anyone turn down medical attention when they needed it the most.
The only reason someone ever did was if they were dead.
“Excuse me miss, but um, your bleeding body and scraped appendages clearly shows signs you need to go to a hospital and not school.” Link stated in a sarcastic tone meaning to show that she was being ridiculous on the topic.
“Excuse me mister, but um, you have no idea how long I have waited for this test to come my way and now is my chance to take it! And if I pass it, I get into the University of my dreams but I can’t do that IF YOU MAKE ME GO TO THE HOSPITAL, YOU BLITHERING IDIOT WHO CAN’T EVEN DRIVE.” Zelda screamed at him, jerking on his collar harder and shaking him back and forth slightly.
The blonde looked at her and frowned. He sighed loudly, then shook his head and pulled her hand from his shirt. “Nope, you need to go to the hospital. No test is more important than your health.
She was taken back, the words that rang in her head beating at her skull. She gave him a confused look, blue eyes blinking rapidly before she scrunched up her nose and gave him a disgusted look. She opened her mouth slightly and looked around her.
“Are you serious? Did you not just hear what I said about the utmost importance of this exam?” She asked, confusion filling her tone.
“I did but you’re hurt, Lady, and I’m not letting you go to some exam only to probably keel over.” Link retorted back sternly.
“Okay okay okay, I see what you’re saying but how about this; you take me to the exam, I get done, and then you can take me to the hospital.” Zelda said in her very best persuasive tone.
Link looked at her the same, dumbfounded by her insanity for wanting to go to school so badly.
“That is the worst idea ever, why would you even suggest that? Why can’t you just let me take you to the hospital? Link asked in a distressed tone.
“B-Because! This is my life on the line here! I need to get into Twilight! I need to do this; this has been my goal since I was a little girl. Can’t you understand that? I need to do this, I promise I’m not that hurt… Just take me. Please.” She was desperate; pleading with him like this seemed like the only option now.
The boy sighed, shaking his head and mumbling to himself.
He knew it was a terrible idea, he knew she wasn’t okay but she was so adamant about this. Why?... Couldn’t she just let him take her to the hospital and be done with it? Not just jump his every step.
“Ugh… I hate myself for even saying this, but fine. I will be waiting for you, I hope you know that.” Link said, sliding his arms under her frail body and lifting her into the air. He started to walk towards his bike,
Zelda gasped at the sudden closeness and the pain that shot through her body. She nodded and spoke softly, “Thank you so much for doing this. I promise you can take me to the hospital as soon as I get out of my exam.”
“Yeah yeah yeah... I’m Link by the way. Forever known as the man who ran over an extremely cute girl running late to her very important exam.” Link said.
“And I’m Zelda, your first victim you nearly murdered.” Zelda said in a teasing way.
“Hey! I didn’t mean to, and what were you even doing in the middle of the road anyway?”
Author's note:So i saw this post and it went perfectly with SS Zelink.
The loud and piercing sound filled her bedroom and apartment.
“Oh crap!”
Zelda jolted upright, sleepy eyes wide as could be. She looked around and noticed the red light on the ceiling blinking brightly. The girl turned to look at the clock that sat on her nightstand and groaned softly at the sight of the blinking three am on the screen.
Without a moment’s notice, Zelda threw off the blankets that were wrapped around her and reached for her flats that she used as house shoes. She ran around the room frantically, grabbing for a robe since she had no time to even put on proper clothes.
Zelda then dashed for the living room of her home. She scrambled for all of the things she needed; keys, her purse, photo albums, and her pet bluebird. As soon as she had thought she had gotten everything, a soft mew sounded from behind her. The girl turned around and saw her cat sitting there watching her.
“Mia! What are you doing, there is a fire! Get on my shoulders and let’s scoot!” Zelda exclaimed as she knelt down in front of the feline. The cat jumped onto her shoulder and gave her owner a soft lick on the cheek. The blonde nodded and ran from the apartment to the safe designated area for tenants to go to.
-
After a long and dreadful run down the stairs to the bottom outside of the complex, Zelda was finally safe outside. She sat down bluebird beside her and held Mia in her arms, looking around at the out tenants that mingled outside.
Some of them she knew since she passed by them every day. There was Karane and Pipit, along with Peatrice who live alone. And there was Groose, whose hair was still shaped funny even being so late. He was there with his roommates Cawlin and Fledge. She gave them all smiles and nods, a polite gesture since she didn’t feel like talking to them since it was so late at night.
Zelda sighed softly, hoping to get the all clear to go back into her warm apartment.
Oh how she missed the warmth of her bed. She missed her cottony pillows and fluffy comforter, the best feeling in the world to her ever since she could remember.
The more she thought about it, the more she swore she could feel… that very same warmth… right next to her.
She turned her head to the side and immediately stepped back.
“…Oh my gods,” she whispered as she saw the figure standing there beside her.
He was standing there. He was a tall blonde man with dark blue eyes and pointed ears.
Practically naked.
-
“Why didn’t he put on clothes before coming out here? Why is he just standing out here like it’s nothing? …Why are those boxers really tig- “
Zelda snapped out of her thoughts as she as they went too far.
A small blush crept onto her cheeks, her heart thumping loudly as she felt the red hot sensation take over. Usually she never did this, she felt it wrong, but… he was just so cute.
He was everything she had ever pictured in her perfect man. He was tall, blonde, arms that looked as if they could hold up the sun and thighs that were thick as a rock. He had a cute button nose and lips as pink as a flower. He was just…
“It’s kind of chilly tonight right?” The boy spoke.
“So cute… I-I mean! So cold! Yep! Chilly alright”
The boy tilted his head and gave her a curious smile before turning his gaze back upon the building complex he had been staring at before.
Zelda cursed herself under her breath. She began shaking her head and subtly placed her hands onto her cheeks, giving them a good pat before getting the courage again to talk to him again.
“I-I haven’t seen you around her before, are you new?” Zelda asked, her attention focused on a door rather than the boy standing her.
“Oh, yeah I am. I just moved in a few weeks ago. My name is Link; I live on the second floor.” Link replied in a rather happy tune. Zelda blinked and nodded her head. That explained why she had never seen underwear boy here before. The girl sighed before stepping closer to Link. If she was going to be out here waiting for the all clear, she was going to at least be warm doing it.
“Well, my name is Zelda and I live on the third floor.” She stated bluntly, looking up at him and giving him a smile back.
“Well hello there Zelda, nice to meet you.”
Her heart began to beat loud once again. It was getting out of control and she had to think fast to make it stop.
“D-Did you know you’re out here in your underwear?!” Zelda practically yelled, startling the blonde beside her.
Link looked down and examined himself. And as soon as he saw it, Link immediately tried to cover himself. His cheeks flushed a bright red. He trembled slightly then suddenly he was behind Zelda and pressed up against her back. “H-Hide me,” he begged, his voice filled with embarrassment.
Zelda tensed up. “How come you didn’t know?! Are you that forgetful that you would forget your clothes?!” The girl exclaimed, her voice in higher pitch to accommodate her hushed tone. Link looked as if he was about to cry. “I-I guess I was just in a hurry! When you hear a fire alarm, you’re first instinct is to run for the door!” Link replied back, his tone going from cheerful to a bit angry.
-
She rolled her eyes before her attention was taken from him to the owner of their apartment building.
The man spoke loudly for all those to hear, and he explained everything in complete detail. Someone had left a candle lit and the smoke had reached the alarm before anything had gotten bad.
With a sigh of relief, the tenants start filing their way back into the building. Zelda heaved a long sigh before looking to the ghost attached to her back. “We can go now, if you wanna gain some of your dignity back.” Zelda said.
Link looked up from his place buried in her shoulder. A look of relief overcame him as he finally removed himself from her back and went to stand beside her. “Thank you.” He said calmly.
“For what?” she asked in a curious tone.
“For telling me I was naked, no wonder that girl kept giving me weird waves and making odd noises…”
“Oh! Well… Y-You’re welcome. By the way… Who wa- You know what, doesn’t matter.”
Zelda picked up her things, making sure she had everything as Mia jumped onto her shoulder. She looked back to Link who had been staring at her with a small blush upon his cheeks. This made Zelda blush as well but she tried to hide her face behind Mia.
“W-Well I better get going.” Zelda said with a hint of hesitation in her voice.
Link nodded as he crossed her arms against his chest. Zelda nodded her head once more and started to walk off, but something stopped her and she turned around. “Do you wanna get coffee sometime?” Zelda asked.
The boy looked taken back but smiled, his ears twitching at the sound of the question.
“Sure, but, why would you wanna go out with a guy you met in his underwear?” Link asked back to her.
Zelda tilted her head from side to side.
The more she thought about it, the more it became apparent.
How could one not fall for a silly idiot who forgot his clothes during an emergency fire alarm?
"Hmmm... To get to know the idiot in his underwear." Zelda said before she turned to walk off.
Author's note: I really needed to write and this is what came out of my constant battle with sadness. Why La Vie En Rose? Because I had recently re-listened to the song and I thought it would go perfect with Zelink so I just had to do it.
(Warning: Character death)
She opened the door and the cold air rushed into her apartment, sending chills down her spine immediately as she stepped onto the balcony. She wrapped her arms around her waist as she made her way to the chairs she had set out when she moved in. She sat down in the chair closest to wall that separated her and the neighbor.
Tears began to fill her eyes once more but she wiped them away quickly with the sleeve of her sweater. Zelda leaned her head back against the wall and the tears threatened once more, but this time she decided it was just time to let them fall. She slid the ring from her finger and into the palm of her head. The blonde then brought her knees to her chest and hugged them close to her as she began to cry.
Through tear stained eyes, she looked up to the sky and the pain in her chest became much more apparent.
-
It had been years since he had left her.
Link and Zelda were two young people who spent their childhood together. Separated at the age of 10, and then finally were reunited when they had turned 18. With each meeting they had, the two became even more and more interested with each other.
They were soon in love and inseparable.
Link was all Zelda needed and Zelda was all Link needed. Each day was like a blissful dream for the both of them. Waking up each day, a smile on their face knowing they were both together, they were always happy. They spent every day together because life without the other would not be worth living.
Link and Zelda were happy together,
But their time together was short.
-
On the eve of their 22nd anniversary, Zelda sat in the restaurant her and Link knew so well. They were playing their favorite song that Link would often sing to Zelda to help her sleep…
“Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose”
Zelda sat patiently waiting, fingertips tapping to the beat of the song that played overhead. Her long ears twitched at every chord change subtle memories behind the lyrics of the song. As she looked to the time on her watch around her wrist, a buzzing came from the pocket of her dress. It was her phone neatly stashed away for her own good.
As the blonde quickly answered it, her heart suddenly stopped.
“When you kiss me, heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose”
She rushed herself to the hospital, hoping to the gods that what she had just heard was not true. Zelda reached the emergency room and went to the desk, tears filling her eyes as she scrambled for the words to say. “M-My fiancée! W-Where is he!? I’m Zelda and his name is Link! T-They s-said he was in a car wreck?” she managed to say to the nurse behind the desk.
The woman only gave her a grave look, the one look that tore her world apart.
“When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloom”
-
Zelda had cried well into the night. Her eyes puffy and swollen from the constantly wiping and tears that flowed out from her eyes. She finally calmed down, looking around before staring back at the stars above.
She clutched the ring in her hand tightly, holding it to her heart and letting out a hard sob she had tried to do away with. After a few brief moments of crying, Zelda opened her hand and looked to the ring that was nestled in her palm.
The silver band with a dark blue crystal embedded in it shined brightly against the moonlight. “It’s like the blue in your eyes… You did that on purpose, you idiot…” Zelda spoke softly as she brought the ring up to her lips. She placed a small kiss onto the crystal and held it against her heart once again.
“It’s been a couple years… I know… But there isn’t a day where I don’t remember that night… this night.”
Those words stung. Her heart began beating wildly against her ribcage. She shook her head, trying to get back to what she was going to say.
“But… You are always with me… Regardless.”
Tears soon began to form in her eyes once again, and Zelda let out a loud yell from the hurt that she felt deep within. She hunched over, gripping her chest as she sobbed out in the open. The blonde knew she could be heard but it mattered not.
Zelda soon sat up once again, biting her bottom lip and giving the sky a weak smile.
“Y-You remember our song right? I-I know I can’t sing it as well as you… But I thought… you might like to hear it again”
A Skyward Sword Prequel Manga fic - Hylia/First - SS Zelink
As requested by legendofmoi
Author's note: WHY AM I PROUD OF THIS.
Anyway, I know I ventured off from what was said by miss Moi, but, for some reason I felt it better to place the SS where I did.
So ennnjooooy!
It all seemed so suddenly that everything happened.
The life he once knew was ending, already over as soon as it began. His life of triumphs and failures seemed like it was just one big dream. His imprisonment no longer mattered. Through all of it, the only thing that held significance was the journey up until now.
The seven day battle was the most important thing to have ever happened to him. It was that same seven day war that took a toll on the land that he loved and inevitably his own life. The dark one wreaked havoc on everything and damaged all, thus why he was here right now.
His body laid in shambles after the light to the world above passed. He could no longer move, he was out of breath, and he only had one thought on his mind.
It was a silly thought but a thought that kept him going throughout this entire journey.
He remembers it like it was the sky above.
The crimson bird called a loftwing dropped in front of him. And there on its back was a woman clad in white with golden hair.
She claimed to be the goddess of this land, Hylia.
At first, he couldn’t believe her but the more he stared, the more he thought it over in his head. It had to be the goddess the land was named after.
But it wasn’t whether or not he believed her, it was a more pressing fact upon his brain, or rather his heart.
She was as the stories claimed. She was a beautiful woman of fair skin whose golden hair shinned as bright as the sun above. Her eyes as blue as the water that ran throughout the land. Hylia was someone whose beauty could not be described in mere words. It took much more to describe the goddess.
Hylia had an air about her, an air of confidence and bravery that no man had that Link had seen. When she approached Link, she seemed as if she had known something that he had not. She looked onto like he was already a hero that she said she knew.
She was a mysterious being but yet… for some ungodly reason.
Link was already incredibly fond of her.
He had no idea why the woman he had met was something that had already taken hold of him. But she was and he had no problem with it. She was the goddess of the land that he fought so hard to protect. She too would be something to protect as well.
But she was gone now, only a figment of his memory that would soon be lost with his life.
His heart started to beat rapidly against his chest. Every thump that hit him made it much more unbearable to keep holding on.
It was hurting him to think about her now. Knowing he would never see her again, never feel her presence near, it just made it so much harder to let go easily. He wasn’t afraid to die but to die without ever seeing her again, how could it be easy in the slightest?
Link’s body was giving, every fiber that he was holding onto now leaving him for good.
His time was almost here.
He looked to the sky, a single tear rolling down his cheek slowly. The thoughts that clouded his mind became even denser.
Hylia.
Gods, why were you taking him from her? Why could she not be by his side in his hour of death?
All he wanted in this moment was for her to be near him. He wanted her to hold him, to calm him from his pain, to look into his eyes and be the last thing he ever saw.
Link just wanted to be with her…
A deep breath escaped his paling lips.
His heart slowing down as his final moments began to take its course.
Link groaned in anguish. His body fought but he knew it would not win the battle. He looked up to the sky one more time and there he saw it.
A gleaming light appeared over him.
A glowing fair skinned hand pressed against his scarred cheek.
Through the tears, he looked to whoever had appeared beside him, and his heart jolted. A smile crept upon his lips as he saw her. Hylia had moved the dying warrior to her lap, looking down at him with tear filled eyes. She spoke so softly, but Link could barely just make out what she was saying.
Though he could not hear the words, it bothered him none.
For the only thing that mattered in this moment, was that he finally got to see her again…
And with his thoughts slowly fading, and his vision now growing hazy, his life was finally at its end.
He felt hollow but not before one final thought that had entered his mind.
I’ll find you again… Once we both awaken…
-
The crystal shattered shards of amber spilling all over the floor.
He looked up quickly, to see her standing there in front of him.
His heart beat loudly against his chest as he saw her. She gave him a smile but immediately began to fall. He stepped to her quickly and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to him.
She was so warm now, warmth that sent his thoughts to a place he had not yet known.
As she looked up to him and he looked to her, a thought came to his mind. A thought that had not ever been in his mind before, but somehow, it’s been there all along.
Since the very first day they met, he has always been so intrigued by her. He wanted nothing but to be by her side for some… unknown reason. There was something about Zelda that held significance to him other than obvious reasons.
Link blinked rapidly for a few times as she stood upright to face him.
As soon as their eyes met, he was taken back to a time.
A single phrase bubbled up inside him and quickly he spoke.
