Sometime today (or tomorrow), I'm going to start my journey of playing Deus Ex for the first time ever.

Where does J.C. Denton keep all of his things? 

Deus Ex (2000) takes place in a world where Nanotechnology has advanced to the point where entire people can be made entirely out of nanomachines (or assemblers as William Gibson calls them).  Such individuals can temporarily activate truly post-human abilities that are far beyond what mechanically augmented people can do.  Anyways, in traditional video game methodology, Denton can carry a nearly implausible amount of stuff aruond with him.  So where does he keep vast inventory of sniper rifles, missile launchers, lock picks, chocolate bars and other garbage he acquires through his game?  My theory is that Denton, being made out of nanomachines, absorbs his stuff into his own body, either as an entire object or as parts as his body breaks down the object to its basic materials.  His body retains the things blueprint, reassembles it and regurgitates it later when it wants it in his hands again.  His body isn’t a universal assembler and so he must actually acquire an object to store it.  Which raises a good philosophical type question, does Denton actually eats food like a normal human or does he just absorb delicious liquors, soda and chocolate bars directly into his body while discarding the wrappers, cans and bottles?  Denton does have a concept of his inventory and has a limit to the crap he can haul around as he makes the remark “Hold on, no room!”  if another character tries to give him something and his inventory is full and cannot hold it, in which case the item is dropped on the ground next to Denton.

On another note, the nanotechnology that makes up his and the bodies of other such people gives them abilities like aerosol nanites that spray out of their faces and detonate explosives before they explode on them, the creation of a remote spy drone that is also formed from nanites located in the face region, a hilarious flashlight augmentation that is located in the individuals eyes and makes their eyes project bright light to illuminate the area they are looking at, interwoven Microfibral Muscle that amplifies an individuals strength, Visible Light Cloaking or Radar Transparency which makes an individual invisible to people and animals or invisible to robots and cameras respectively, Balistic Protection enabled from microscopic subdermal plates that form in the epidermis, Vision Enhancements that enables viewing of the infrared spectrum and sonar penetration of walls and other solid objects, and Targeting Assistance that allows for better aiming of weapons and to scrape information about other people.  What a great game, and to think games at that time were expected to run on 1Ghz processors and plenty of people didn’t even have a dedicated graphics card!
