Trudging back home in the unexpected snow was made even more miserable by the fact that there would be no tiny footfalls running to greet him at the door. And even though he internally hoped for it, he knew that almost three a.m. was way too late to expect his children to still be up, unless they somehow coerced Sojin with pouty lips and big eyes into letting them stay up until he returned back to the spacious condo. Joongki enters the extended lock password into the keypad, waiting for the lilting tones of it being accepted, before the door unlocks before him. After making sure the door closes securely behind him, he slips off his shoes and walks quietly into the hallway, turning the sharp curve to make his way up the short stairs to the second floor. Loosening his tie, he swings his suitcase along with his gait, relieved at finally being somewhere that he doesn’t need to constantly be on edge.
His children’s bedroom doors are closed, and he smiles to himself, the knowledge that they’re sleeping sound and safe a comfort. But as he turns right towards his own office and bedroom he stops short, head tilting the slightest. “Can I...help you, Sojin?” She's usually towards the left of the stairs, where the children’s bedrooms and her own is, but it’s not like she’s not allowed to be there. “You’re not usually in this side.”
