“Hey . . . you okay?” Jack asked, lingering in the doorway of the room he shared with Jäger, looking in at his brother with some concern. The tentacle incident had left him a little paranoid, checking in with Jäger more than usual. He’d definitely had nightmares since then.

“Whoa! Look out!” Jack exclaimed as he went speeding toward someone who’d just exited a store. He turned abruptly in order to skid to a stop, resulting in the skateboard flipping over and Jack flying off it and into the the person he’d been trying to avoid. They tumbled to the ground, and Jack sputtered some, trying to get his hair out of his mouth.

“Shit! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” he asked, looking down at the person beneath him with wide eyes.

“Hey Dr. B! you’re a doctor, right? I don’t really know what they call your job,” Jackson admitted as he stepped up to the woman. “But hey, look, so . . . do you have anything that can help calm a person down? Or like, keep them calm if they’re anxious or panicky about something?”

There was one person Jack cared about more than anything in the world: Jäger. It had been difficult, loosing his grip as his little brother grew older and more independent. If it was up to him, he'd keep Jäger wrapped in blankets with him under a pillow fort for the rest of time. But he knew he had to let his brother grow up and live his own life.

It didn't stop the anxiety, though, and Jack was on constant stand-by to make sure he was ready whenever Jäger might need him. "Hey," he said as he approached the other. "I got you this." He held out a leather-bound journal. "I hear it's good to write down your feelings and shit. Or like, draw them or whatever. If you need to." He knew they both tended to keep their emotions on the down low, and he also knew that keeping things inside all the time with no healthy outlet wasn't good for Jäger.

Jack should've been looking where he was going, but in his defense the young woman was quite small and currently covered in an armload of crocheted stuffed animals. When he did stumble into her, he quickly stepped back, shaking his hair out of his face with a frown as he noticed a few stuffies had fallen.

"Shit, sorry," he muttered, bending to pick them up and brush the dirt off them.

“Hey man, you doing okay?” Jack asked, relieved to see that the cafe seemed to be more or less in one piece. There was a giant crack in the far wall that a construction crew was working on, but the place was still in business which meant Cosmo hadn’t lost his source of income. He needed that if Jack was going to help him get his own place. “I haven’t seen you at the apartment since the fair . . . just wanted to check up on you.”

Jack had come to the Shrinking Violet to check on Jonah. After the earthquake, he’d been worried about quite a few people, and he was making his rounds through the city to see them after work. The strip club seemed to have gotten out of the event unscathed, and it was quite crowded with people who were desperate for a way to forgot what happened.

He leaned over the bar, looking back and forth and not seeing the witch. As he lowered back onto his feet, he spotted a young woman he’d seen the last couple times he’d come in here. Her name was . . . Carmel or something. He gave her a small wave. “Hey! I’m Jack . . . have you seen Jonah? Is she here?”

“Okay, cool cool, tight,” Jack said with a nod. “Hey, do I know you? You look familiar.” He tilted his head curiously, trying to place the guy. He’d been to most hang out places in the city, and he met a lot of people, so it was difficult to remember everyone.
