If you want, jack/core #100 for the fic prompt
Sorry about the delays! And how long this got. I got excited writing about these two again. X:
Jack wasn't a very materialistic person, and didn't require an excessive amount of maintenance either. Once bills were paid he was free to splurge on his lover as much as he liked. Core had no lack of funds, certainly- and the slender bot did often deign to cover the price of their evenings out. It wasn't ever that Core had need for anything or want of much, but it was wonderful when Jack could get his eyes to light up in surprise of some small thoughtfulness on his part.
To think, he (well,) thought to himself as his arms settled around Core's waist, dropping by unannounced used to feel so intemidating. And now it was his favorite part of the week to find a time to bring that excited shine to his partner's eyes when he answered the door. Even moreso when Jack had some token to give him, flowers or a prepared meal, a necklace or pretty pin for one of his wigs. So often now he would see something while he was out, think of that smile, and it would find its way into his shopping basket.
"You really don't have to keep bringing me so many presents!" Core flushes a pale blue in the mirror as Jack does up the clasp on a pendant. It sparkled in the light of the bedroom window. Large hands slipped across shoulders, down arms and back around Core's waist.
"I know." He said, one time of a dozen by now. "But I like to." His face tilted to press a still kiss against Core's cheek. "It made me think of you, it goes with that dress of yours. The teal one, that has the wrap with it."
"It would go nicely, wouldn't it?" He smiles and admires the picture they make in the mirror. Then he turns in Jack's arms to lay cup his face. A thumb brushes along one of the lines under Jack's eye. "I look forward to an occasion where I may wear them both for you."
A low chuckle comes from his speaker, and a hand runs along the curve of Core's back. "I'm not sure I belong anywhere that fancy."
"Hush." He silenced him with a kiss. "I've seen you in a suit before, you look positively dashing my dearest."
Jack wasn't very good at words, never as chatty or poetic as Jolt could be. But he tried. "Next to you, anyone would find it hard to rise to the occasion. You'd outshine everyone there."
It earned him a delighted laugh, and he could have sworn his workings skipped a beat. "You're very sweet, darling, but a good host would never intentionally look to make his guests feel inadequate."
If he could, he would have grinned. "Then maybe we could arrange a private showing?"
"Jack!" He laughed and leaned into him, and felt the brush of more "kisses" on top of his head.
"Is that a no? I thought you loved dressing up."
His blush burned brightly, and he giggled behind a delicate hand. "I do. I'm sorry, I'm still not used to hearing this... genre of humor from you."
"I've never cared to participate in it before. Always thought it was too vulgar, especially back in the army. They called me inexperienced, I called them barbarians."
"And now that you have sunk to their level?"
"Dunno." He sighed. "If only someone could civilize me and my terrible ways..."
Core laid a hand on his shoulder, looking remorseful. "I'm terribly sorry Jack, but I fear you may be beyomd saving. You're too far gone. This behavior of yours..."
"No, no I understand..." He solemnly laid his hand over Core's. "If this burden is too great...Please know that I adore you, I love you. I'll keep you in my heart forever."
"And I'll think of you every day." They met eyes. Core's expression low and regretful, Jack's face...his face. Jack broke first, turning his head with a groan that turned to laughter.
"Don't look at me like that, you're too good at this." He backs away, pulling Core with him onto the couch.
"Sorry!" He snuggles up against Jack's chest as they get comfortable, giggling at their own silliness.
"You just looked so sad. It was painful." He's happy to settle his hold back around Core. Maybe they can take a nap together here.
"It's unintentional, I assure you." He closes his optics and feels Jack's hand brush against his spine once again. There's a hum of acknowledgement as they settle back into place, and Core's hand comes up to fiddle with the pendant. His fingers trace out the shape, and a quiet part of his brain hopes Jack hasn't spent too much on him. The peaceful quiet stretches for a long moment before he's roused from his thoughts.
"...I wasn't kidding entirely. I adore you. Honestly. More than anyone else, you know?"
"And I adore you, darling." He hugs him closer, and smiles as they fall into small affections once again.
