If you followed me over from my old account and were around long enough to know about my old Genesis Dissentire story, then you might recognize the characters who inspired these two new additions to Parallels! Mason and Bethany Hasson are siblings separated at a young age when their parents--researchers involved in breakthrough nanotechnology--were killed. While Beth falls in with a bad crowd as a teenager and starts to use her burgeoning powers destructively into her young adulthood, Mason’s career path takes him to Jade’s Hall, working there as a field agent. I have SO MUCH ANGST planned for the Hasson siblings, especially when it comes to the big scene where they get reunited and realize who the other one is >:)

Parallels Lore: The Jade's Hall Scandal

Gonna dive into some lore into one of the major organizations within Parallels here, so buckle up!

What is Jade's Hall?

Jade’s Hall has been the sole supervillain prison since the 20th Century, locking up the villains that their recon teams capture, fixing the messes the superhumans leave in their wake, tracking down those with superhuman powers to learn more about them, performing rehabilitation on the villains that are willing to try, and monitoring the super teams on the planet. Jade’s Hall also keeps track of all known superhumans (whether they are part of a team, a solo act, or try to hide their abilities), just in case any of them might go rogue.

There have been four generations of Jades running the facility, starting with Henry, and Directorship currently resting on the shoulders of Tasha Jade, Henry's great grand-daughter, and the first female Director. She had to clean up the mess that her father, Bradley, left in his wake when he took over the facilities when his father (also a former Director) was killed during a field mission gone awry. Bradley took Jade's Hall in a direction that his grandfather would never have wanted to see it go, destroying the family legacy and decades of trust in a matter of years.

The Trial of Bradley Jade

Instead of a pandemic in 2020, the Parallelsverse was rocked by the discovery that the Jade's Hall institution, which had been trusted and looked to as the leading edge of superhuman research and containment, had been lying to them for Bradley Jade's entire tenure--about 18 years, give or take. Superhumans who admitted themselves to the facilities in order to get help with their powers that they saw as a threat to loved ones were experimented on; if Bradley saw them as assets, he'd make it look like they died during procedures meant to help them so that he and his scientists could do what they wanted with the subjects, pushing them and their powers to their limits instead of tempering them. If they died, well, they were dead on paper already anyways. Those recognized as "supervillains" who were captured and contained and seen as "too dangerous" were quickly and quietly put down.

Tasha had suspected that things weren't kosher within the organization, but didn't do serious digging until she was older and established within Jade's Hall. When she found out about her father's underground work and the researchers and scientists and their unethical experiments, she blew the whistle on him. Bradley Jade and every single employee who had been complicit in his crimes were rounded up and arrested after Tasha took months of painstaking effort to build up a case and credibility to oust them.

Trust in Jade's Hall eroded overnight. People who had looked to them for protection from violent superhumans or as a bastion of hope for their own unstable abilities called the facilities out as hypocrites, just as bad as those they claimed to save them from.

Tasha undertook a rigorous program to rebuild trust in Jade's Hall, shunting large amounts of money to PR and not being afraid to make public appearances to discuss what had happened behind the curtain and what they were doing to fix it. This led to the facilities being more open and present globally, establishing training programs for superhumans who wanted to use their powers for good but didn't want to start up/join a flashy superhero team.
