Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Here is something hearty for you to stare at tonight- it's not much of anything but I ended up drawing and writing a lot!
It's mostly food for thought and meant to spur more ideas, because I really wish more Wings of Fire ocs wore accessories or clothes, especially if they have much simpler designs. It's fun! I need to give outfits to my characters too.
I think dragons would wear more clothing not only because they're sapient and have diverse cultures, but because there is a lot of use of pivotol objects and items in the series and it always leaves me thinking... how do they carry that crap around??? Lol. They need pockets! And pockets are typically attached to clothes! Or bags... there's so many things you can do for them. It would be so fun.
Redesigning: Sandwings!
Previous post --- next post
Much like the Nightwings, Sandwings are one tribe that I struggled to redesign: purely because I am already quite happy with how they are. There are LOGICALLY a lot of different routes I could take (Spiky lizard variant, desert fox variant etc...) but nothing I really wanted to change about the original tribe.
So, I didn't change anything! Kind of. I chose to focus more on what was already there, exaggerating the tail barb and thinking about patterns that a sandwing might have.
The more I do these, the more I question whether 'redesign' is the right word for this series. Maybe 'tweak' fits more?

Tribe Features:
Scorpion tail barb.
Thicker tail - much like a Seawing, but it grows thinner near the barb. The tail has more musculature than that of other tribes, making venom strikes more dexterous and powerful.
Dark Sclera - not necessarily black. Pupils are usually a lighter color.
Frills that run down the spine.
Intricate patterns

I definitely think that the Sandwings should stand out through patterns: These could be snake scale patterns, scenes of the desert or markings inspired by certain cultures! Some of you may recall the Algerian sandwing fashion post? I'm thinking of that right now.
it's only fair that the Sandwings are a crafty tribe - beyond trades of art, they also have a knack for blacksmith work and stone carving. These trades were born out of necessity. Living in a harsh environment turns creativity into a survival skill: one that the Sandwings have been using for a long, long time. However beautiful their craftsmanship is, it is equally as purposeful and efficient.

That's all I have for this tribe! Feel free to incorporate these headcanons into your own world - but please give credit for any ideas which do not belong to you!
Starting tomorrow, I’m planning on watching TADC as a whole and I was wondering if you happen to have any post-finale essay video recommendations—whether it be from your channel or anyone else.
Oi, I’ve actually got a playlist of essays and shorts I’ve done for the show on my channel!
That aside, no other essays are specifically leaping to mind, but I HIGHLY recommend watching @ohnoitstbskyen’s reaction/commentary videos on the show.
Guy has shorts going over the character designs, and (admittedly very lengthy and rambly) commentaries on every episode- easily some of the most interesting, insightful, and on-point discussion of the show I’ve encountered.
