Mouse Death :( + Gyrfalcon Update :)
Jagermouseter passed away overnight. I'm not sure what happened. I got her & Pie from the same store & they both died suddenly & very young after being healthy the first few months, but they were different ages & as far as I know, not related or only distantly related. In retrospect, Jager had been a little bit thin over the last week or so, but I've been cutting back the girlmice's food because they were all getting way too fat, so I just assumed she was dropping down to a healthier weight. I got home from work last night & she was very obviously dying. Normally, I don't separate dying animals because I think it just stresses them out more, but mice eat bodies & Jager was so far gone that she didn't seem to know where she was. I moved her into a small container & made her a nice little nest with a t-shirt, she immediately buried herself in it & it looked like she died peacefully in her sleep.
Gyrf looked great last night, almost back to normal, & ate some wet cat food & then got himself some water. He's getting an antibiotic every 12 hours & the anti-inflammatory/pain medicine every 24 hours, but this morning, he looks like he's in pain (it's been about 21 hours since his last dose of pain meds). He's eating a crushed up, wet lab block without any problem, but I can tell he doesn't feel well. I'm hoping it's just from the pain meds wearing off. I think I'm going to call the vet & ask if I can split the dose in half & give him half at night & half in the morning, because I'd rather not have him suffering as much as it looks like he's suffering.
