I just watched Frankenstein (2025) and the most distressing thing was Victor berating the Creature for not learning like he thought an adult man should. Just, as an autistic person and someone who has intellectually disabled family members, Victor screaming at him to say more than one word, yelling when he hurts himself, generally being rudely inpatient with him, restraining him “for his safety and mine”, saying he’s stupid and inhuman and equating “intelligence” (talking and obedience) to humanity, hurting him as a way to learn, and killing him rather than take care of him, was more upsetting to watch than any of the gore.
I know most people read it as “he acts like a child because he was just born” but I couldn’t ignore the fact that he has the body and voice of a large adult man. Victor also seems frustrated by the fact that the Creature “should” be capable of these things.
Actually the most distressing thing was that fucking sound the ice made when it broke.
