Blue-Eyed
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x fem!reader Warning: memory loss, talk of a fight, angsty but not too much, fluff, snarky Bucky
Summery: Alone and afraid, you walk through a strange village with a familiar stranger.
Everything was dark. I couldn‘t feel my body till I felt a sharp pain on my temple. My eyes fluttered open and I saw pavement right next to me. My body laid on the side of a country road near a small city.
I registered that rain fell upon me from the sky hitting me and the earth. It was cold and I felt my body tremble from the lack of warmth. I looked down at my self and glanced down and saw the attire I was wearing. It consisted of a hoodie and some ripped Jeans. The rips didn’t look intentional, like I have fallen and scraped my knees.
I need help but I don’t know how to get it. I can’t find a soul around me. I scream for help but no one can hear me. Only the nature I am surrounded by and myself. My voice sounded rough. Surely from the long lack of usage. After a few moments it got softer and more melodic. It got as warm as a day in summer.
I inspected my environment and myself more. My nostrils filled with the fragrance of the rain. It instantly calmed my nerves and washed away the anxiety. Out of sheer relief I closed my eyes. As I closed them the picture of a man sprung into my vision. I looked around and saw myself seated into the passenger seat. It was raining cats and dogs outside and I felt uneasy. The man next to me smiled reassuringly at me. He told me everything is gonna be alright. That I was safe.
My eyes sprung open as I heard movement from my left. There was the man from my memory groaning and sitting up. He looked worried. With frantic movements of his head he searched for something or someone. He called out a name. He abruptly stopped as he spotted me. Again he called out the name. I looked confused at him before I looked around for a third person.
The man with short brown hair slowly got off the ground and dragged his body to where I was sitting. He knelt down to my hight and took my face into his hands. One of those hands felt cold to the touch. As if it was made out of metal. As I looked into the mans eyes I could feel a word on the tip of my tongue. Soldier. I couldn’t pin point the association of this word to the man, but it felt somehow right.
Out of some habit which must have been imprinted into my memories, I reached into my Jeans pocket and fished out a coin. I turn it and see an imprint on both sides of the coin. There was a roller coaster on one side and on the other was written ‘Coney Island’. I scrunched my eyebrows together. I couldn’t remember the last time I went there.
The sharp pain in my temple caused my eyes to close again as I winced. I saw the man’ face behind my closed eyelids. He smiled at me like in the memory from earlier. I felt instantly relieved. There was also another familiar feeling I associated with him, love.
As I opened my eyes again I saw the man had stood up and offered my hand to help me up. I reached for his hand and took it. With one big pull I laned into his brought chest. I murmured a small sorry to which the stranger answered with a chuckle.
We went down the road to the small village I earlier saw from afar. As I walked in I felt a weird sensation surrounding me. It felt old and powerful. Like magic. I felt like I left something behind. Something I should have never left behind or forgotten.
The man with brown eyes took my hand and led me through a grand park in the middle of the village. As I looked to the fountain in the middle my brain conjured up some memories stored in the back of my hazy mind. I was laying on the ground breathing hard. My rips hurt from the fall. A silhouette walked to me. I made a force shield to protect me from the attack. Then everything went black.
I looked around me. My movement were frantic. My body was on high alert. A mixture of adrenaline and anxiety cursed through my being. I only registered I was hyperventilating when the man from earlier took my face into his and called out my name softly. First I couldn’t focus my vision till I found the man’s piercing blue ones. I felt like I knew those. Like I have seen every emotion in them. From longingly soft to hard and cold as ice. The man told me to calm down. My powers were acting up. I looked around me and saw the air was filled with electrical energy. Small flashes flittered around us. I saw a dome shielding me and the man from the outside. I breathed heavily.
Strong arms held me to a brad chest. I felt safe. It felt familiar. The Stranger was murmuring my name softly in my ear. He told me everything is fine and we will go home. I leaned away from him, “I am so sorry, but I can’t remember who you are.”
The stranger led me into an old house. The door creaked and groaned as he opened it. The windows looked like they could fall out at every second. Cobwebs hang from the ceiling and in every corner. The air was mouldy and filled with strange tension.
“You will probably not remember this. But you used a glamour spell to conceal the house.” So I have magic. My eyes widen as memories of a strange place flood my brain. Instantly I raise my hands and drew patterns into the air. Slowly the old, mouldy interior of the house melts away. I see rows of books and shelves with trinkets. Some I can remember some still don’t jog my memory. I wonder aimlessly around for hours. The man watching me every step. Not in a way that I feel like I am actually his prisoner. No, It feels like he is watching so no harm will happen to me.
I round the corner and find the kitchen. The spices transport me back to my youth. More memories come back. Karma Taj, the Ancient One, trainings and tea ceremonies in the gardens. The stranger follows me. I turn to him and smile as warmly as I can, “I would start supper. Do you wanna help.” He replies to my smile, “Yes, I would like that.”
During the cooking process I felt a familiarity. As if the stranger and I had a routine of cooking dinner together. “Do we often cook together?” The man stops in his tracks. He looks at me and slowly nodded, “It’s my favourite time of the day when we cook dinner together. When we aren’t too tired, we do that. When not, there is always a delivery service.” He chuckles, which makes me smile.
My eyes widen as I realised full of horror, “I never asked for your name. You only told me you knew me. And you answer all my questions.” He walked over to me and put his hands on his shoulders, “It’s okay. As I told you. Someone put you under a spell so you can’t remember everything. My name is Bucky. More like my nickname. My actual name is James. You call me that more than my nickname.” I nodded slowly. “We should resume cooking or something will start to burn.” I chuckled as he jokingly nudged me back to my task.
After we ate dinner and cleaned up we started to get ready for bed. James looked from the bed to me to the couch. I did the same except every time he looked at me, I looked at him. If this would have been a cartoon, he would have question marks flying around him. “There is only one bed. You take it. I take the couch.” I shook my head no, “It looks uncomfortable. The bed looks like it was made for two people.” He sighted before taking a pillow and a blanket from the bed and throwing it on the sofa. He turned to me and smiled reassuringly at me, “Belief me, this couch is way more comfortable as it looks. I slept on worse couches.” I shrugged and made myself ready for bed. The situation looked hopeless for me to win.
I lie in bed and stare up the ceiling. The bed is too big and cold for me alone. Then I remember something. I snap my fingers and a few seconds later a fud could be heard from right beside me. The mattress creaks as James laned on it. I can hear him curse. He is grumpily murmuring into the blanket, “I hate when you do that.” I only giggle and turn my back to him, “Night!” He only grumbles in acknowledgement.
The next morning, I woke up with an arm around my waist and soft snoring in my ear. “Goddamn it, Jimmy! Stop snoring in my ear!” I heard my husband groan next to me, “Stop calling me Jimmy, love.” He fastened his arm around my waist and pulled me closer. His relaxed posture didn’t hold long. The man became rigid. My eyes suddenly widened. “Love? Do you remember everything?” I tapped Buck’s arm to loosen a bit before facing him, “By remembering everything, you mean that a crazy wannabe warlock tried to kill us? Hunt for my old family village? Curse me with a bad amnesia curse and forgetting I come from a long line of witches? That he also hex the getaway car to crash as soon as we leave the village? That we crashing? No. Don’t remember that, bear.” Bucky rolled his eyes at me before poking my side. I squirmed and squealed, trying to get away from being tickled by my husband.
