Jim is a math hero to me. After taking some of Jim's courses for math teachers, I will always approach math differently, insisting on gaining a deep conceptual understanding as well as procedural fluency.

Deleting the first digit of a power of two (base 10) can leave another power of two. Eg 32 --> 2 and 64 --> 4. Other examples?
