Born as the first son James believed that he was the best. Nothing he did was wrong. He grew up with everything handed to him, knowing that one day he would be king. His life was simply the best until that fateful day….
Many years ago a beggar came to the palace seeking assistance from the crown prince, disgusted with the idea that someone as lowly as she would ask for help he turned her away. She asked one last time before the knight’s began to escort her out, but the answer remained the same. She transformed herself into a beautiful witch and placed a curse on the palace. All the inhabitants would become monsters of their own hearts.
James felt pain within his body, withering in pain he called out as transformed. His fingers brushed his teeth and noticed fangs, a new hunger slowly rising. A monster. One of nightmares. His eyes scanned the room, and saw it wasn’t just him. Everyone became vampires.
“James, your pride is your downfall. To see nothing past yourself and notice those around you. Thinking problems of the world are a nuisance. You are not fit to be king.” The witch turned and spoke to the others in the room, pointing out why they fell, and how they are to remain.
Before the witch left the castle she gave them all this warning. “The only way to reverse the curse is to give your heart fully to one of my blood, and to have their heart turn to you.” The door closed behind her and that was the last time they ever saw the witch.
In the castle he remained for many, many years. Starting to think the witch’s warning was just another cruel joke on his wretched fate….
