Artist Steve gets his work in a gallery but the guy who owns it is unprofessional and rude so while he's there he complains about him to a random stranger who just so happens to be Tony Stark, the owner of the gallery
“Nice painting.”
Steve turned, half-full glass of champagne in his hand raised ever so slightly to act like a shield. He was about to say ‘thank you’ for the millionth time that evening, but his words caught in his throat when he realised the man who had spoken was very attractive.
“I - thank you. I’m - I’m glad you like it,” he smiled bashfully, not really sure what else to say.
“To be honest, your whole collection is fantastic,” the gentleman replied with a small, cocky smile.
“It almost didn’t happen,” Steve found himself saying. “Tonight, I mean. The owner of the space wasn’t... the easiest person to get along with. I’ve still not actually met him - I only ever spoke to his assistant. He didn’t seem to want to rent out the space to me, and his poor assistant was as stressed as I was, and -”
“Well, after seeing how great your work is, I would like to officially apologise for that,” the stranger cut in regretfully.
“Why would you -?” Steve laughed, before his face dropped as he realised. “Oh my God, you’re the owner of the gallery.”
“I am.”
“And I just stood here and said you were difficult to work with.”
“You did.”
“Oh my God,” Steve covered his face with his hands. “I’m so sorry.”
“Well, I’d be more than happy to let you make it up to me,” the gentleman replied with a shrug. “Actually, I’m pretty sure I should be making it up to you.”
“You... what?” Steve asked, pulling his hands away from his face slowly.
“My name is Tony,” the man grinned, sticking his hand out for Steve to shake. “You are very talented; I’m sorry for causing you so much trouble, and I would very much like to take you out to dinner.”
“I...” Steve could barely think, never mind speak. “I... sure.”
