ABOUT
Townhouse Spa is the baby of Union Square’s Acqua Beauty Bar founder Jamie Ahn – though these are no toddler-sized digs. Over three floors that boast 6,000 square feet (big for a spa, period – but palatial by New York’s trim standards), there’s a boutique, relaxation room with bar, nail salon quarters, separate locker rooms for both sexes, a massage and body area, and second floor devoted entirely to men.
AMBIANCE
Comfortable luxury is the vibe, with rich mahogany detailing throughout the space, buttery soft leather seating, and an eye-catching mother of pearl bar in the relaxation room. The nail salon quarters can accommodate up to 20 at a time, making it a popular choice for girly-girl parties and corporate team-building time. On the second floor, men enjoy a steam room with pebble stoned-walled private showers, and a barber’s section with three sink-your-body-in reclining chairs. Meanwhile, the romantically-lit women’s floor has calming soaking tubs and whispery-quiet massage rooms.
EXPERIENCE
The hydro capsules live up to the lore; you can choose from indulgent treatments based on the soaking tubs, or add time in one to any service for $45. A blend of minerals combines with radiant infra red heat and 30 simultaneous jets to rid the system of toxins and boost wellness as aromatherapy steam and massaging vibration calm your senses. Following up with one of the unique massages, like the Eastern Meridan Massage – a blend of pressure point work, stretching, acupuncture and massage meant to open the body’s natural energy channels – is an ideal way to cap a soaking experience. And among the vast list of manicures and pedicures offered, the Jelly Bath Pedicure is the most off-the-beaten-path, with a jelly foot-to-knee soak that relieves tension and pain with deeply penetrating nutrients and circulation-boosters.
IN CROWD
Townhouse Spa is a popular group jaunt for packs of fatigued corporate types and fellow fast-paced (and high stilettoed) midtowners.
WALLET WATCH
A classic manicure and pedicure will cost you $22 and $45, respectively, and massage therapy rangesfrom $135 to $202. The trademark HydroSoak pods can be enjoyed alone for 25 minutes with accompanying scalp massage for $65, or added on to any other service for $45.
