You might be referring to this post where I drew genderbent Jamil? I've never genderbended Mayu since she's too dotter to me that I can't picture her as another gender, so my het yuri just becomes yuri yuri /j

Otaku AU Jamimayu - Part 3.5

Since I've received some questions about other characters in the AU, I have decided to share my headcanons of "otaku or not" for all NRC students in one go! (help why is my ship AU somehow involving the whole cast now 😭😭) This isn't part 4 since it's short and just adds a bit more background info, but behold - the entire list of who is or isn't pissing Idia off:

Note: These are just for defining my own AU, and not meant as a definitive “yes or no” as to whether they’d be an otaku. You can always set up a situation in your own AUs where the character somehow gets invested, the same way I can’t picture Jamil being an otaku in canon but I made him one here due to The Stars Aligning™ 🙂‍↕️

Are established as known otakus in my AU

Idia - The resident expert and longtime otaku. Probably made his own doujins and earned his fame in the fandom.

Jamil - New to being one, but also only is invested in one thing. Mentally held together by tape and a nui & nendoroid, so the Scarabia crashout didn’t happen this time.

Definitely could be one

Rook - Needs no explanation. He’d be a DD (daredemo daisuki = loves every character) and a terrifying force in any fandom he enters.

Sebek - Could put his WAKASAMA energy into having another oshi and become very torn about it, like him with tsum Malleus.

Lilia - He’s friends with gloomurai and also very familiar with games & fandoms. Probably very entertained by the online beef between gloomurai and snakewhisperer while not knowing who either of them are IRL. He can juggle multiple gachas at the same time without breaking a sweat.

Not likely, but have potential

Leona - Not into weeb stuff, but might download the game during one of his depressive episodes/boredom spirals for the lols. Either deletes it pretty soon, or accidentally gets invested in the lore. How nice for the devs that this man also has $$$…

Jade - Artist that does most of the commissions for mostroillusts, but doesn’t personally play the game. However, I could see him playing out of curiosity and then using his knowledge to say things for the sole purpose of stirring up drama and discourse in the fandom just for entertainment 💀

Casuals

Ace - Dabbled a little bit in the fandom but isn’t normally active, plays from time to time, thinks some of the characters are cute.

Cater - If the game’s popular, I could see him hopping on the trend and playing it casually.

Not otakus

Riddle - Absolutely not. He thinks those things are a distraction from studying and a grand waste of time. Has the self-discipline to never download one.

Trey - Not interested in general. I feel like I could picture him playing non-gacha games casually though, like puzzle ones.

Deuce - Probably saw ads and knows the game exists, but never tried it out himself and doesn’t really get it. Saw Ace play the game once or twice.

Ruggie - He ain’t spending his hard earned money on those predatory gachas 😤, they’re his madols!

Jack - Also not interested, he claims he has more important things to focus on.

Azul - Tried the game out (after hearing Idia’s rants) just to scope out the otaku demographic and try to understand the concept of “oshis” to better squeeze more money out of them, but ultimately he was more impressed by how much of a money-printing machine this “gacha” thing was than personally invested in the game. Recruited Jade and Floyd into his commissions business, with him focusing on the business & logistics side of things.

Floyd - The “surprise me” artist of mostroillusts that has led to them getting called a scam before. Plays gachas on and off, ditches titles just as fast as he discovers them because he keeps losing interest. Probably judges comm requests like “Ehhhh? They want me to draw what? That’s so lame and boring…”

Kalim - Might have tried the game out out of curiosity after Cater brought it up during club activities, but didn’t get all the game mechanics and stuff and didn’t play for long. He’s that guy with the craziest luck, he single pulls the ultra rare meta SSR and shows you, asking “Is this any good?” Wouldn’t care about “meta” and just hits roll on anything he likes. Might’ve went to a collab cafe for fun when he saw it then single-pulled the Mayu merch Jamil wanted too (which Jamil didn’t get). If he ever showed signs of becoming invested, Jamil would urgently try to convince him to stop because he’s worried about Kalim whaling.

Vil - Vil is just simply too busy and not interested. But he definitely gets earfuls of Rook’s passionate rambles about this game and its characters, so he’s forced to remember facts and tidbits just from that.

Epel - Same as Deuce, doesn’t get it. Might’ve mistook the game for being aimed at girls too because of the cute cast. (Idia voice: bro doesn’t know what danseimuke means)

Ortho - Knows everything about the game thanks to Idia, but doesn’t personally play. He is just here to support niisan’s fandom endeavours (and watch how things go out of curiosity)

Silver - Only knows some stuff due to Sebek if Sebek goes down the otaku route, otherwise he hears it from Lilia, but either way he is blissfully unaware of the depths of the hell known as gacha games.

Malleus - His phone broken 💔

i love that the joke with otaku jamil went too far that now its a joke of YOUR fandom. or mayu fandom idk? and its almost canon now XD

but, really, i LOVE when people continue to reference a joke until the joke turns into lore, and new inside jokes arise from this. its like. layers and layers. an onion

hajkhfdsjf i never even considered there being a fandom for myself or mayu that is so funny to hear someone say 😭 i guess that makes my AU one of the most elaborate official spinoffs /j but yeah i agree! when things just start developing more and more and gaining a life of its own (and turning serious even) it's a beautiful sight to see www

A description of Otaku!Jamil Self insert 👁👁 is it just fem Jamil?

The game is like TWST with the player character's gender left ambiguous, so it's safe to assume that his self-insert is just like... literally him with some modifications LMFAO, not even genderbent 😭 the more Jade reads the reference and draws magiblr user snakewhisperer's yume comm the wider his razor-fanged evil smile gets 💔

Just started laughing at the thought of Jamil’s feed being taken over by my penguin Mayu and shower curtain propaganda

Bro got them as ads while he was scrolling his dash or something and did a double take, then probably ordered a shower curtain just to keep it neatly folded away and never even used after the first and only time he removed it from the package to look at it 💀

Have you thought about making a playlist for jamimayu or acemayu?

WELL... I have definitely thought about it, but I have never been successful at actually making any playlists for Mayu/her ships 💀 mostly due to my method of listening to music being very Unhinged (I only remember recent songs I loop and I am always too lazy to save songs into lists), so even if you asked me I'd struggle to name songs that I associate them with until I randomly come across the songs again 😭😭

I do have a handful of songs I associate with Mayu specifically because they were my inspirations when I made her, but not enough to really make a list... maybe one day... (I am open to suggestions if anyone has any though!)
