P!ATD on Discover & Download

Panic taped this performance sometime around the new year while Brendon was really sick. He'd had the flu in December 2005 while filming the IWSNT video, hung out with Audrey a lot, and then Audrey complained around Christmas that she now had bronchitis & pneumonia.

I'm not entirely sure which week this was filmed (it looks like maybe late December), but the point is that Brendon was sick while the band needed to tape this:

Unfortunately, that video was the "Discover & Download" performance used on January 17th. It was also up on Panic's artist page on MTV's site a few days earlier.

Many fans felt bad for Brendon, yet were impressed that he still did this! But we were also horrified that THIS was the performance that a wider audience who'd never heard of P!ATD were supposed to discover the band through?! omggg. His voice was wrecked. It was so painful to watch... poor Brendon. He wasn't even his animated self and he'd managed to still do that at some previous shows when he'd only had a bad cold.

The IWSNT performance above was the one that was shown in January, since that was the band's new single. The performances of Build God & The Only Difference weren't shared until later.

We had heard on New Year's Eve that mtvu's backstage pass with Panic would be up on January 23rd. Here's that:

Panic performed on Carson Daly in front of a live audience on January 12, 2006 (it aired on the 20th). This was their first national television appearance. Fans in the audience said that Brendon was pacing and looked nervous. Apparently the audience was mostly P!ATD fans, but they weren't allowed to bring in cameras so that sucked (although a couple people got bad quality sneaky phone pictures from a distance). The screenshots from the videos were better quality, so those were passed around.

Panic performed The Only Difference, Build God, and IWSNT. Build God was originally for the studio audience and wasn't included in the broadcast, but then it aired on April 27th when the band was getting even bigger.

P!ATD had a small walk-on appearance on TRL on the 17th and a short clip of the IWSNT video was shown.

P!ATD and TAI were about to embark on their UK tour, followed by the national tour. According to William’s TAI journal update, the bands flew straight out of NYC to the UK right after filming this episode.
