Some rendered sketches out of my sketchbook. Decided to take it with me the other day for our Adventure’s League session (we’re playing Dragon Heist). These are some gems from the session.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but the weird umbrella is like...a metal detector. And he wanted to seem inconspicuous as they walked around with it.

After they realized it didn’t matter AND ALSO they didn’t want to walk the entirety of Waterdeep, the party hired a carriage and someone gave Jandar a hat for the ride.

If your character got a gift they hated, how would they react?

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT >

Duren

Duren is not often given gifts. Even between himself and his brother, they do not exchange gifts often at all. I’m not sure the man could ever dislike a gift, lest it was a direct insult. He’d be grateful for anything someone might give him.

Now, if it was - in fact - an insult of some kind… whoever gave it to him might find it best to turn tail and run, lest his rage take them.

Sora

Sora is the most prone to being outrageous. Although she is on an “exile” of sorts from her clan, she still boasts her heritage. Her noble house ring is worn proudly on her finger at all times, and she doesn’t hesitate to mention her pedigree. This leads to a “holier than thou” attitude, which could be detrimental for anyone attempting to give her a gift.

More likely than not, she would give no second thought to merely discarding it - whether or not it hurt the giver’s feelings.

Jandar

Of the three muses on this blog, Jandar is certainly somewhere…in-between. He’s highly materialistic and treasures “goodies”, but would hate to get something he has no interest in. However, he’s not prone to direct conflict and could often be considered a social coward.

Because of this, he would likely accept the gift and act thankful to the person’s face before throwing it away as soon as he was alone.

The man began to scream against his gag as the stranger appeared before him.

In Waterdeep, there was many a horrific thing to find. Jandar found himself as one - inadvertently caught up in cult activities. The Watchful Order had sent him to investigate rumors of arcane magic influencing a local neighborhood. What he didn’t realize was that the “influence” was a prolific cult dedicated to an ancient myth known as Manshoon. He could still hear the bloody chanting as they tied him up. Damned cultists.

Jandar began struggling against the binds. He hadn’t expected anyone to come find him. Especially when he considered their location - somewhere off the coastline, about a mile out of the city’s reach. Jandar himself was lashed to a tree, his feet a few feet off the ground. They tied him a ways up, so the normal population of wolves and such didn’t get him. They specifically had left him as an offering. As to what would take him - since everyone knew Manshoon to be a legend and that alone - he didn’t know. He didn’t want to know.

He continued on with his muffled screaming nonetheless. He was nowhere near strong enough to loosen the ropes on his own, but perhaps if this adventurer noticed him... he might stand a chance.
