So instead of sewing the same dress up in purple I just altered Wendy's to be purple. First I removed the bow on the front, then soaked the dress in pure acetone for ten minutes. Then with a toothbrush, scrubbed off the glitter gunk off the dress, wiping with a paper towel and rewetting it with acetone where needed. I THOROUGHLY rinse off the dress before moving on. After removing all of the excess glitter I decided to try experimenting with acrylic paint tinting the fabric. Usually I would try diluting it with water, but today I wanted to try using rubbing alcohol since I read that you can get different effects and finishes when you mix paint with different fluids. I used a mix of 1 part paint to two parts rubbing alcohol and mixed it together, then soaked the dress in the paint for about 5 minutes. Since this dress was blue and I wanted it purple I just used magenta paint, hoping a pinkish tint would shift the colour. Afterwards I fished out the dress and rinsed it out under running water. Surprisingly, after a point the water just ran clear and the paint stayed in the fabric. Usually if I dilute paint with water it just washes out entirely, but this made the paint stick to the fabric without rubbing off. I then air dried it, and then after it dried, rewetted it to test the colour fastness and it's staying on really well. The only thing I was say is that it dulled the fabric a bit but all of my paint is matte paint so I'm not surprised lol. I also did test the paint on the bow I cut off, and you CAN remove the colour tint if you soak it in acetone but it doesn't revert it back to its original colour entirely.
