a new month is here so I wanted to give some summaries for last month :) I do love data

above are the books I finished reading this month* and my receiptify summary of my top 10 songs this month! all but 3 are from the HTTYD soundtrack 🤭 (*finished, but not necessarily started this month)

and here are my summaries for studying and reading! I'm surprised I spent less time on stats homework than reading, but I'm not mad about it :)

January was certainly a month! it felt like it flew by so fast though. I was planning on finishing another book this month, but that didn't quite happen. I should really get my tbr list together for this year 📚

I've been getting more in the habit of going to the gym once a week though (not counting the week I was sick 🙃) and it definitely feels like it's making a difference! I'm making focusing on strengthening my back to help with my posture, but it's just been so nice to be there and my boyfriend has been very encouraging about it 😊 I also haven't been listening to music as much while studying, so my top ten tracks might be a bit more accurate than in the past 😅

our club is going to be doing a candy gram and bake sale for Valentine's Day and I'm very excited to be making the posters for it 🍪💞🌹

almost 53 hours of studying in January! that's actually really close to how much I studied in the first month of my fall semester, it'll be interesting to see how similar my study times are this semester. I also didn't get to forest friday yesterday oops 😅 so I'm throwing it in here! we're steadily starting to run into topics that are a bit more challenging to me, so I'm really trying to stay on top of things. it still feels like the semester hasn't really started yet though, y'know? it will once my first midterm hits in two weeks lol

we're going to be hitting some cold temperatures this week though. y'all stay warm, and here's to a month full of love 🥰🥂 xoxo

january 2024 for me was the month of work, and not only was i working literally at work, but i was also working on myself, i learned not to care about what others think or say about me, i was reflecting a lot about my trauma, i felt happy, at peace, lonely, sad, unloved, loved...this time frame of a month, year or even more does not define your life, a lot can happen and you can still try to enjoy life, it won't be bad always

Eep, first month of 2017 is over and I only have three months until I have IB exams and I’m done grade 12! This is very terrifying and I hope my brain survives the trip. So before it can be fried, let’s see what I’ve managed to do this month.

168 followers, given my hiatus I’m pretty proud. Still reaching for 200 though

I tried to figure out how many posts I did…too many? More than 20 this time that’s for sure.

Obviously going to have to say King’s Cage and Gilded Cage as they were in my anticipated releases for this month.

To Them, From Us: Yes this one definitely makes the list of favourites. It was a poem inspired by a friend while at school along with the daily prompt from daily post. I really like the progression this poem took and the format to boot. Plus, that title though! And for me I generally despise titles so I’m still pretty proud of this one. Not sure about the poem itself though since I’ve avoided going back and reading it…

Cover Reveal: A Court Of Wings And Ruin by Sarah J Maas: It’s the cover reveal. How could I not be obsessed. So in love. What are your thoughts on the ACOWAR cover?

Disney’s New Movie Moana: Because this movie is still amazing and no way do I listen to the entire playlist on repeat almost every day of the week…I’m a liar. BEST MOVIE EVER. I’m nearly eighteen and I have no shits to give, Disney is life.

Life:

Well…I finished off my first semester exams on Tuesday. English was great, surprisingly. Advanced Functions was done before the break, got the grade back and was very proud of myself though. Bio…let’s not talk about bio.

Anyways, the entirety of what that means is really hitting me now. I have exactly three months until IB exams in May and then my time as a high school senior is over. Holy shit people. That’s insane. That is not enough time to re-learn chemistry. So screwed. Plus, prom dress. Shit. Shopping. Awesome, but terrifying. I’m gonna go read and cry now because this is just as exciting as it is stressful. I spent the entirety of today being a bum and doing jack all because I don’t want to. I have an essay due on the 6th though so I really need to get my butt in gear. Instead of course I’m blogging.

Anyways, not much is going on at the moment. I guess.

I finished up my last session with my counsellor, we went out for lunch together. It was really nice and the closure was an excellent step in the right direction for me.

Bookstagram is slowly going to take over my life. I can feel it. I already had my moment of walking down my hall and noticing the light was hitting the ledge perfectly for a picture. I proceeded to do a bookstagram shoot. I’m obsessed. Curse you Michelle and Emilie.

January Stationery Usage

This year I have decided to play closer attention to the tools I am using to try and fulfil one of my 2017 stationery resolutions, to consume more of what I own. Therefore this month I thought I would share with you what I have used.

Januarys Notebooks

This month I have flown through three pocket notebooks, all of which have been Field Notes. Completing three pocket notebooks in a month is not usual for me, I am lucky if I work my way through two. I have been scribbling down lots of different notes as part of my studying and I think that has contributed to higher than normal use. This month I decided to use up some of my Field Notes stash which has the added bonus of meaning I can use my Foxy Fix Wanderlust leather notebook cover.

This month I also finished my morning journal notebook. I have been using the Life Vermilion A5 notebook which has been really lovely to use. It handles all my fountain pens and inks really well and I love the cream coloured paper. I will start February with a new morning journal, which will be a Midori TN insert.

Januarys Inks

Earlier on in the month I shared a photo on Instagram showing the inks that I am using this month. Taking inspiration from Priya at The London Parchment I have gone for a wintery theme with lots of muted tones. I am recording these colours in my Hobonichi Techo on the monthly preview page. At the end of the year this could be a nice way to see what inks I have used each month and where there are gaps in my colour palette.

I have really enjoyed my January colours but I do have some clear favourites. Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-ro is a lovely dark green ink colour that I find perfect for this time of year. It provides a little colour in my notebooks but keeps on the winters theme reminding me of Christmas and evergreen trees.

J.Herbin’s Lie de The is a firm favourite of mine. I use this in my Kaweco ART Sport snd I love it, so much so that I have actually used up all my cartridges.

The one ink I actually don’t think I like at all is Diamines Ancient Copper. When I bought this ink I thought it would easily be an ink I would enjoy but its been the opposite. To give it some credit it has great shading but there is something about this ink that I really dislike. This will definitely be one for the February rotation.

Planner progress

My planning system is going pretty well so far. My A6 Hobonichi Techo is working perfectly as a bullet journal. As this is a pre-dated planner I am finding it very easy to plan out my week. I do feel like this format means I am less creative with the pages than when I used a Leuchtturm1917 notebook, but it’s a small compromise.

The larger Avec Techo has been working as an art journal to a point. I don’t find that I have enough time or energy at the end of the day to really use this as I want to, so for February I need to try and find ways of being more creative. I think I need some more inspiration so I shall be digging around online.

Alongside this I have been recording my studying and blog activity on the monthly calendar. I like the additional space that the Avec provides.

Using the week on two pages view I simply record what I am doing. For February I am going to try and use this spread as a time management tool. I think space could be an issue here, but I am interested to see how I am spending my time and as I cannot find an app that works for me I am resorting to pen and paper.

In Summary

Spending some time thinking about my stationery January I feel like I have done quite well at consuming existing items. I did make one purchase this month, but this is tied to InCoWriMo prep for February.

February also marks my first attempt to take part in InCoWriMo. I will do my best to send a letter, postcard or card each day of the month and hopefully I will be able to get most days completed.
