Lesson #1: The “Alphabets”
Summary-
Romanji: romanization of Japanese- basically useless, waste of time
Hiragana: Main phonetic alphabet- most important, learn immediately
Katakana: secondary phonetic alphabet- Same as Hiragana, but with different symbols, used for foreign words and menus
Kanji: Characters imported from China- most difficult, used for vocabulary
Thoughts-
I knew most of this stuff, but it was a good refresher course. If you want to learn anything right, do it as if you are learning it for the first time. I look forward to actually learning how to write and read in hiragana.
