Indigo Jones: Utility + Workwear
Indigo Jones is a reference that I use quite often when I describe my love for denim and utility garments. This look was inspired by Japanese workwear and classic American workwear. I added a bit of prep to this look by including the Ebbets Field baseball cap, I chose a pair of distressed + patchwork selvedge denim that were constructed from vintage shutter looms in Kaihara and a CPO shirt jacket. This shirt jacket consist of classic utility components: two button flap chest pockets, two slanted welted front pockets, adjustable button sleeve cuffs, and was finished with a curved hem. I think it’s important to find garments that are versatile and interchangeable. A shirt jacket can be layered with a t-shirt, a denim jacket, or even a button down shirt (light-weight preferably). A shirt jacket is a workwear staple piece that has been re-engineered and remastered to fit the lives of so many blue-collar workers.
I’m always thinking “quality and not quantity” whenever I’m shopping. I’m extremely pleased whenever I find an item that has superb design elements and added design details for performance and stride. I chose to stick to my normal color choices but I added a pop of color for complimentary purposes. If you’re wondering how to channel your inner “Indigo Jones” I would suggest doing a little research on the history of Japanese workwear and invest in a few key items: selvedge denim, an over-shirt, and a utility jacket for layering purposes. Keep things nice and simple and only layer your shirt with a long sleeve shirt or plain t-shirt. You want to keep things pretty light-weight and maximize on your color choice and add denim or a nice pair of utility pants that are workwear/blue-collar appropriate.
