MTB, The Pros Use It, Why Maybe You Shouldn’t
MTB, The Pros Use It, Why Maybe You Shouldn’t Just because an mtb pro (or a bunch of pros) uses a piece of equipment doesn’t mean you should make the same choice. Why not? Well, there are several reasons and I will give you some excellent examples. A student of mine emailed me accusing me of being crazy for riding plus-sized tires. His argument was that Jared Graves and Richie Rude (two World…

2007 bmx prototype. The Olympics were coming up fast so yeti decided it was time to make a frame of their own. There were 2 Protos made. One for myself and one for Sam Willoughby. They were primarily made to make sure they got the geo right and that the frame was nice and stiff. It was a mash up of tubing cut from 3 different mtb models, all welded onto some 1 off machine dropouts. 2 weeks after I got this bike it took me to a World Cup 3rd place podium which was also the Olympic test event in Beijing, which pretty much secured my spot on the olympic team. Yeti SB6c 30th Anniversary Special Edition
First Look | Yeti SB6c 30th Anniversary Special Edition
When Yeti dropped their new Switch Infinity suspension platform last year, as always with new technology there were a few doubters. All those naysayers were soon silenced as Jared Graves took the SB6c to the top step of the overall Enduro World Series championship, he had shown that the bike worked! It was a fairy tale beginning for the new suspension platform. This year Jared’s team mate Richie Rude has followed in his footsteps by dominating the season and taking the SB6c to back to back series titles.
However, away from the glitz and glamour of international racing this is also an important year in Yeti’s history, as this is the thirtieth year of bike production for the small Colorado based company. In celebration they have released a 30th Anniversary SB6c, decorated with only the best customised components and a striking colour scheme that plays nostalgically with the company’s fearsome racing heritage.
The colour matched styling is certainly distinctive and is designed to reflect some of the famous bikes that brought Yeti to the top of its game. The changes go more than skin deep however, as the high modulus frame features internal cable routing and a new 148mm x 12mm Boost rear end. There have also been some changes to the specification, featuring brands who share Yeti’s distinguished history, legendary names such as Chris King and Raceface. We got a chance to check out the bike at the NEC Bike Show in the UK, and fell in love. You will need deep pockets though as the special edition will cost £6999!
Our Impressions
Not only does this bike drip with heritage, but also underneath the nostalgic paint job hides perhaps the fastest enduro bike on the market. This is a bike that will get Yeti fans frothing with excitement, and will no doubt be snapped up by collectors with very deep pockets. It would almost seem a shame to get this one muddy – almost!
